Must be for some of it, Jason.
It shows as $4.00 in Australia. Everywhere non-US gets a 2 dollar surcharge added on. Which is a fair whack for cheap books. So the 0.70 is an extra 'bonus' charge for his area. |

Another argument for publishers to sell direct to other places - so they can get some of this money that AT&T or whoever is sucking up.

Sometimes I wonder if the US wants us to do business outside its borders. Between VAT and insane shipping costs...

Well telcos certainly do at the usurious global roaming charges!
2 bucks for half a megabyte is pretty nice money. |

So there's a UK price, maybe other Europe prices, a US price, Australian price.
Anyone in Asia or Africa get a different price than these? |

I'm collaborating with a UK publisher, Ghostwriter Publications to cross the pond and get our titles from Haunted Computer Productions cheaply available. It boggles my mind that a simple electronic file should cost a stack of bucks to zip a little farther along an electron path.
Good luck with Apex, Jason! Scott Nicholson hauntedcomputerbooks.blogspot.com |

The $0.70 is the 17.5% VAT on $4. Unlike paper books, which are zero-rated for VAT in the UK, eBooks are subject to the full rate. Are eBooks not subject to GST in Australia?

They would be if sold in this country. Given there is no Amazon (unlike the UK) in Australia then no tax can possibly apply.
The publishers also lobbied against relaxing of parallel importation laws in the face of government so the chance they get any new ridiculous 'you must tax overseas purchases' passed in their favour is currently extremely unlikely. No idea how you would go about this, anyway, as they can't make any foreign companies do anything. |

Apex Publications: $2.99 all eBooks all formats all the time
Hey Gang,
While we're not currently running any specials or sales, I do think our eBooks are priced smartly and affordable. Every eBook we sell goes for $2.99. This applies to every format. We've been selling them this way since January. You can order directly from our website http://www.apexbookcompany.com/apex-store/ebooks/ or from the usual eBooks retailers...Amazon/Fictionwise/B&N/Smashwords. If you order from our backlist, definitely user the retailers because I've not gotten around to converting our backlist to all the different formats (just PDF). Apex publishes work of dark SF, dark fantasy, and horror. Check us out! http://www.apexbookcompany.com Jason Sizemore |

Jason,
Thanks. I'm a big fan of Apex Books and all the stuff you guys do. ![]() I'll have to check it out again, it's been a while. I think it can go without say, but y'all are at the top of the heap when it comes to indie publishers. I remember spending some obscene amount of money at FW when you guys needed a hand a while back. Glad to see you're still around. |

Thx for all the kind words and your support.
And the MobileRead forums have been kind to us. Several times I've received great help formatting our books from members. |

Apex Magazine subscription drive to give away a NOOK Tablet
[Image too large - MODERATOR]
Apex Magazine is a professional-level monthly short fiction literary ezine of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Recent contributors include Elizabeth Bear, Cat Valente, and Rob Shearman (Doctor Who writer). A week after we announce our subscription drive with an incentive of a NOOK color, the folks at Barnes & Noble go and announce the NOOK Tablet! Looking at the specifications, the NOOK Tablet compares favorably (if not slightly better) than the Kindle Fire (except in price, the Kindle Fire is $199 as opposed to $249 for the NOOK Tablet). The good news? That price difference may not affect you AT ALL. Instead of giving away a NOOK Color when we reach 200 new/renewal subscriptions, we will give away the NOOK Tablet. We’re making great progress to 200 new/renewal subscription. So why not help us reach our goal? For $14.95 (subscriptions are normally $19.95) you’ll get: Twelve issues of Apex Magazine Two free eBooks (Descended from Darkness Vol 1 AND Descended from Darkness Vol 2, the anthologies that gathered year one and year two of Apex Magazine into print) Entered into a drawing to win one of ten trade paperback copies of DARK FAITH Entered into a drawing to win a NOOK Tablet. Subscribe via our friends at Weightless and join in the fun. You’ll be supporting another year of professional level genre short fiction in the process! http://weightlessbooks.com/format/ma...-subscription/ Last edited by Dr. Drib; 11-10-2011 at 06:05 AM. |
