I guess you rather support Sony and Adobe's atempts to do the same? I guess we all make our choices. But, you should tone down the FUD a bit. There is just no way Amazon will become the ONLY retailer of ebooks.

What is FUD?

No, I would not rather support Adobe's or Sony's attempts to do the same. Sony has at least made its device open to more sources and it is pretty clear that Sony does not dominate the bookselling world.

Adobe is not the sole sponsor of ePub but is part of the international consortium that created the standard which is an open standard, and Adobe does not sell me any books (does it have a bookstore?).

Additionally, neither Sony nor Adobe have the market power in publishing that Amazon currently has.

I don't see either Sony or Adobe as being in the same problem class as Amazon. I'm not suggesting that anyone needs to agree with me and I'm not suggesting that the Kindle is not a decent device or that Amazon doesn't have good prices and a good selection.

I wouldn't buy it immediately - but if it contains a plastic rather than a glass screen, I'd definitely be interested in switching in the future, assuming the price point is the same or cheaper.

If it's in the 200 dollar range, I'd want to get one fairly soon - and definitely a few for gifts for people.

I had no urge to buy the PRS-700, I really love my PRS-505 and think Sony has to do better to temp me. Mine point is that I love my Kindle 1.0 so Kindle 2.0 will have to have some great upgrades for me to shell out $400 to get it in this economy when I have 2 great readers. I'm talking better organization, such as folders and I might ask for it for Christmas 2009! I used the Oprah coupon to buy the Kindle in Oct 2008, 11 months after it was released, so I'm not in impulse buyer. So even if I was tempted, I would not have it for another 11 months; who knows what will be release from other manufacturers during my 11 months wait.

I would probably never buy a Kindle unless it supports multiple formats.

If it supports public library files and has folders, I am there!

I would be quite peeved if the only new features were firmware-based and they weren't rolled into Kindle 1. You can actually read the Mobipocket library books on the Kindle. There are instructions stickied over in the Kindle forum. I would LOVE to have Adobe Digital Editions support.

If they add ADE support and bring it down to the $200 range I would buy one for my wife and another for my mother.

Unfortunately, my library has very few Mobi ebooks. They are all Adobe. That is what Amazon gets for coming in late!

The leaked images and specks of the Kindle 2.0 look awful. I wouldn't even trade my Kindle 1.0 for the new versions if given the opportunity.

However, if they surprise us and announce something with a big screen then I'd upgrade in a heart beat. I have the credit card all ready!

It's up there with folders as one of my most-desired firmware features. I've been wondering if a format addition is what will actually be announced Monday. Maybe something like epub. It might help with tech books and it is at an O'Reilly event. I would be pretty keen on that.
