Here, you type in (or click on) an authors name and the "cloud" rearranges itself to show similar authors (the closer the author names are to each other the more similar they are).
I love literature-map.com, but I always find myself needing to correct people's claims of what it actually represents. Literature Map's only claim is that people who like A, will often like X, Y, and Z. It is not about finding similar authors at all (although that might happen accidentally as well). The closer the authors are to the one you entered, the more likely you will like both. Nothing more, nothing less. It is the readers that turn out to be similar. Not necessarily the authors. From the site:

It is based on Gnooks, Gnod's literature recommendation system. The more people like an author and another author, the closer together these two authors will move on the Literature-Map.

Thanks for clearing that up for me (and others). For my intended purpose, I like your description better. It fits what I'm actually seeking ... recommendations for books I might like based on what (the author) I said I currently like. And I like that the recommendations are apparently coming from opinions of real people, not advertising, marketing, pay-for-promotion, or A.I.

For me it's the opposite - I choose my books by genre and synopsis, not the author's style. I have no favorite authors. There are plenty of authors who have written books that I loved and books I fell asleep over. So I don't select my books by their authors, but only by their content.
