The regulation says "readily" and with "commercially available tools". A hot air rework station meets those requirements, let alone a very common soldering iron.

![]() Though I don't fancy replacing a BGA! I've taught many people how to solder SMD. A pair of wires is easy, though best to buy a €8 "practice kit" or practice with some speaker wire etc if you are unsure. |

I've had a real waterproof watch (30m saltwater) and the back simply unscrewed. It was also very much cheaper than any ereader.. Quote:
It's not even real waterproofing! Read the fine print! |

As I mentioned about balloon popping, the EU regulations do no require a battery door and pop-in replacement. As @Quoth mentioned, a soldering iron is not a proprietary tool. As someone who has opened a lot of Kobo ereaders and since neither a spudger nor a guitar pick (others have mentioned using credit cards and other thin plastic items) are that hard to find or use, I find your comment to be risible. Are there no how-to guides?
I do want to ask what you meant by easily removable in regards to a Kobo. Are you saying the backs are not easily removable? If so, can you name a Kobo ereader other than the Aura H2O where the back is difficult to remove? |

For a lot of people, removing the back of a Kobo would be difficult.

Going by some of the people who have successfully revived their Kobo by replacing the µSD card, your comment is, once again, risible. Given their ages have varied from 12 years old to 84 years old, the skill level and coordination required to open most Kobo ereaders is rather obviously on the low side. The most common issue was obtaining access to a computer capable of writing the image to the µSD card.
Asides from this, the regulations do not require a battery compartment door and pop-in replacement battery so you are dreaming in believing that they are coming back. |
