Amazon announces Kindle Scribe Colorsoft at Sept. 30 Devices Event

I have twiddled with the Remarkable Pro for reading books and find it ok but you are making some compromises. I have had challenges converting books to PDF and getting it to fit the screen correctly. I do love that I can write all over a PDF and move that PDF around and not lose my "ink". Check out Reddit for more expertise and better feedback than I'm giving .

The reMarkables are PDF viewers / Sketch tablets. I have the most recent reMarkable FW. Terrible for ebooks.

The Paper Pro seems a bit different but inferior to the basic version of the Nxtpaper 14 (14.25"), and more expensive. The Nxtpaper 11 (10.9") though is better for notes. I have both.

I have or had both Elipsa, reMarkable and various 10" tablets.

You want a mono Kindle, Kobo, Pocketbook, Onyx Boox (Nook is USA only?) 6" to 8" for reading ebooks.

I use Sage to read ebooks, but have or had Oasis 2, PW3, DXG, K3, Nook ST, Sony PRS-350, and other eink. I've held Kaleido eink (colour) in the shop. The Colour reMarkable may be gallery, in which case it's too slow for novels but better colour for comics, but inferior to Nxtpaper v2, 3 or 4.

IIRC, this isn't typical of Amazon. It's been a while since I bought my current Amazon device, a Kindle Scribe, but I think in the past the devices have gone on sale just a day or two after announcement. It seems to me like delaying the release of a device too long after the announcement risks killing any "buzz" from the free PR the announcement generated from news articles on sites like The Verge, etc.

Having written that, Amazon's been releasing Kindle devices for 18 years now. It's quite possible there's not that much "buzz" in the first place. I recall the release of that first device, and when I finally got one after the intial rush. It was a rather magical feeling. I'm not entirely sure what would do it, but I'd love to have that kind of feeling upon the release of a device again.

There may be factors beyond Amazons’s control involved in the delay. The FCC is mostly shut down and Amazon may be waiting on approvals.

TheVerge article about the launch event from a month ago already mentioned that the new Kindle Scribe will be "available early next year [2026]".

That is for the cheapest Scribe (without front light). Amazon said the other two models will ship "later this year":

I’ve got my fingers crossed that we’ll be able to order this month as Amazon just sent me a code for 20% off of a new Kindle because I’m at 12 years since buying my first one. This would make it a no brainer to upgrade the the Scribe Colorsoft if things work out.

I tend to wonder if the 3 devices in the new Kindle Colorsoft Scribe family are the ones covered by FCC IDs 2A4DH-2423, 2A4DH-2424 & 2A4DH-2425 (electronic display devices) which were submitted on 2025-Sep-30. Just in time for the shutdown...
