And here’s some news for you Jon, you can add weight through those cases you like to pretend are also required for an ereader, you can not however remove weight from an ereader with anything near the ease and simplicity. So if you want a heavier device there are options, for a lighter device we’re beholden to the device manufacturer.
It's that those with a Sage are not complaining about the battery as there's nothing they can do about it.

I know why they want a lighter device and I disagree. It makes the battery poorer and it can make it harder to hold if it's too thin. With a better processor, there's a chance that it could use more power so a better battery would help with that.

Why is it you are against a Kobo that has a large screen and a good battery even if it has to be heavier?

Because then it's heavier and personally for me, harder to hold with one hand. Yes, I also found many large or thick paper books difficult to hold with one hand. About 250g is the most I can hold for a longer period.

Well, we will have to agree to disagree unless we can get better battery life without being too heavy.

IMO the first Oasis was in no way a disaster. I liked it and it worked as expected, unlike the Kobo version of it (the Sage cover).

I figured it was a joke but thought it was aimed at the kobo power cover which has met with less than good reviews. Though the issue may have been fixed in 4.35.

No I’m not complaining about the battery life for my Sage because it more than meets my needs. I’ve seen others echo this sentiment as well. So again please stop asserting your opinion on devices which you haven’t owned as facts. Is the Sage battery weaker than the Libra 2? Yes. Does it have a major impact on the Sage? No. And I’m speaking as someone who has used both extensively.

As to your second question:

Asked and answered earlier than your post in this thread. Seriously Jon what do we need to do to get you to accept and/or remember your experience with these devices isn’t universal. Some people want a lighter device because even the Forma put a strain on their hands.

I'm not interested in larger readers, so TBH I didn't even remember Kobo had a power cover.

Maybe I'll get my Christmas wish for a 10 inch 300DPI e-reader. They'd have to do a warmlight feature on something like this I'm guessing. At least I'd hope so.

As long as the crappy micro-USB port doesn't give out, at least you can recharge the battery. You can't fix the Aura ONE's crappy frontlight.

Nothing is perfect..

It seems at every turn I am reminded that buying a Libra instead of a Sage was a good decision. Perhaps if Kobo decides to release a simple 8" model with none of the pen and battery nonsense, I'll give 8" another look.

You do realise it's perfectly possible to use the Sage as "a simple 8 inch reader without the pen", right?

I have had my Sage over a year now and still don't even own a pen to use with it. The battery life has got better in that time too. Not great, but better.

As "a simple 8 inch reader" the Sage is superb, as evidenced by the fact that I have a Libra H2O as my more pocket-friendly reader for going out but that's the only time I use it.

My Storygraph stats show that I've read nearly 450 books and over 150K pages (clicks) in 2022, and upward of 90% of that was on the Sage. I suspect that's A LOT more real world experience of Sage use than the Ranting Omniscient One has had.

I'm also fairly satisfied with my Sage and use it more than my Libra 2. I don't use the note-taking feature. My Sage has a very uneven frontlight, though, and it bothers me more than the battery life. The battery lasts for several days and it's enough for me, as I only read at home.

A solar or USB charged power bank is hugely cheaper than a power cover. Ideal for in the wild or long power cuts.

Sure, but I couldn't justify the extra cost for pen features I'll never use, a worse battery than the Libra 2, and all the reports of weird problems like the buttons only working when they feel like it.
