Sadly, my mom would never label them, so I don't know who did which was done by which. Some are in drawers, some in bags and some in bins. I have one on the guest bed. (It's a pretty yellow one.) My niece will get the whole lot when I'm gone or in a nursing home. I'm afraid she's not sentimental at all, (she's at NYU Law right now....)

Prolonged exposure to plastic bags or bins will eventually be harmful to your fabrics.

I've heard of people actually laying themn all out, one on top another, on beds that aren't being used. That way there are no folds or permanent creases.

I hope your niece does appreciate and treasure what you have.

It kills me to see quilts that women put so much time and effort and love into not loved back.

I'm sorry DG, I do the best I can. I have no baby beds or single beds in the house.... (Doesn't dust build-up hurt them too?)

They'll be fine where they are.

My apologies for putting my nose where it doesn't belong.

I'm not upset DG, and I am interested in properly perserving them. I'm just limited in closet space (the house we bought didn't have much) and don't know much about preservation of such items. I and my brother both have queen sized beds, and doubles and smaller don't work too well on them....(The Guest bed is a double, the bed frame came from my paternal grandfather...)

What a treasure trove you live with.

Is your guest room used often?

There ya go.

Lay out your quilts, largest to smallest, on the bed. Cover with a cotton sheet (clean) to keep the dust off.

a far better solution than in bags or boxes. Bet as you lay them out, memories will come flooding back.....

Ok, but that's gonna be one honkin' big pile of quilts....(And I should launder the sheet every few months, right?) And could I use a bedspread instead of a sheet?

I guess I led a sheltered life. These things were just part of household, used when needed. My grandmother crocheted like crazy, and my sister did too, as a teenager. My Christmas gift from her for the last three years have been simple wrap-up blankets for chair and couch use. (I bought her material for her alma mater so she could make one for herself and pillows for the old friends from college. She's a home-ec teacher.) The "antiques" are just used family furniture...

Why do I get the idea your house is full of really cool stuff?

My grandmother crocheted, but the only thing I have that she made is my christmas stocking, which I haven't seen in years, as my father has it.

I make my quilts to be used and abused. Not outside, but my baby quilts have had stuff on them that defy description. They wash beautifully. but, your quilts are now treasures, and deserve to be treated that way.

Lilac, you have the really cool stuff, you still have your father. My coolest possesion (to me) are the Christmas videos I shot in the mid eighties when many of my older relatives were alive...

I don't see him very often, he lives down in Louisiana We don't get to talk a lot. I do miss him

And I know its a "thing," but if my house were burning, the one thing I would grab is my table. It was my grandparents. My aunt and uncle took the house after they passed, and a few years ago they were renovating to sell. My other aunt took the table to put in storage (so my aunt and uncle wouldn't chuck it) and when they found out I needed a table, it made the 400 mile trek up north. Everyone has etched their names in, along with funny stuff (like JEN IS FOXY - my mom, heh) and some ex couples. Everytime I sit at it I think of all the memories
