Problems with Sony's e-book library v2.5

Ah.. you are running 2.0. Does it want to upgrade you to 2.5 or 2.2? Perhaps someone here has 2.2 that you could install. It doesn't force you to update to 2.5.

Can you send a screen print of the page you are getting?

Thx Bob for the answer! Would be great if anyone has a version 2.2 for me! I don't know what it wants to update to, but I suspect 2.5 and don't want to do that since the problems I have with the two other PCs with 2.5.

I hope this is of help. If not please respond with an example of titles that are out of order so that we can continue to find a solution from there. And could you let us know if these are all books downloaded from the Sony eBook Store or imported from other sources.

As for the search function, I'm not sure what the problem is, but that can be looked into after we find out the problem with the sort.

*edit* I've noticed you've had your PRS505 for a while so I'm assuming here, that you are upgrading from a previous version of eBook Library that was working properly and have upgraded the firmware on your PRS505 as is suggested by Sony.

Yup - everything is up to date, including the firmware. Here's a screen shot of my books page...note that I've tried sorting by author, in descending order. Most of my books were purchased from the eBook store, but some were from Manybooks.net.

Interestingly enough, the sort functions AND the search functions work in collections. Just not in the main library or books list.

I see. I'm guess 2.0 won't work with the new store, where as 2.2 does. I would chance just updating it to 2.5.. What have you got to loose? You can't use it as it is now anyway right?

You're right, something is wrong. Not even the William Shakespeare's are grouped together.
This may be beyond my level of expertise, but I'll search the forum for any others with a similar problem and take a look at the Sony help site to see if this problem has been reported before.
And yes, it is odd, that the software works OK within collections.
The 'Purchased Books' collection usually only includes books bought at the Sony eBook Store. Can you let me know if the sort and search functions work correctly when using that one collection. If so, it may narrow down the possibilies by showing that the software is handling books differently depending on where they were bought (and possibly the infomation contained within).

I'm still lookin for a solution.

Anyone else out there have a problem with the sort and search functions of the eBook Library V2.5. Please let us know.

Did Sony give you a solution, other than reinstalling the software?

Hi WDE! Yes that was one of mu problems also as mentioned in one of my posts (#15) earlier on in this thread.

"Hmm... just also realized I can't sort my books in the computer library in alphabetical order using the v2.5 software. It works though for sorting books in the reader, but still..."

Thanks Bob! I guess my hope is that someone out there has a version 2.2 that I can use since that seems to work. I have already two other instances of v2.5 installed on one Vista machine and one XP and neither works correctly, so don't need another one. Also wants to make sure that it really is a v2.5 software problem. So I guess I probably need to start a new thread on that so people see it.

Personally, as I suggested, I would just try the 2.5 upgrade. It will either work or not. If it doesn't work you aren't any worse off than you are now. And you could still uninstall it and install 2.2 if you can find it somewhere.

Thanks Zevs, sorry I missed your quote, right in this thread.
I'm sure you're getting tired of this. But have you tried cleaning up the folders/files that are left over after Uninstalling the eBook Library before reinstalling a newer version. There are some folders/files left behind that can be deleted, which has cleared up some probs for some of our members.
It also seems that v2.2 and v2.5 may have stored folders/files in different places, which I'm currently looking into.

I started on Vista and upgraded from 2.2 to 2.5 with no problems, hopefully we or Sony can come up with some answers soon. WDE.

*edit* just a memo here to check with member Rebarnmom, who is having other strange happenings using v2.5. She has extensive ISP filtering enabled, and some explicit books are blocking certain pages from displaying.
