That reddit quote is from me. With Elipsa, everyone was saying markup on kepubs didn't work without patching, but markup on epub did work. In my experience that is not true for Sage. There was new firmware for the sage released on the 18th and I don't know if that got applied to the Elipsa, but, if it was, I am betting that markup for everything sideloaded except PDF is crippled.

Update on that reddit thread from me, I just got done with Kobo support. They assured me that it does work, but " third party books will still not be fully guaranteed since we didn't code them".

I told them to send me an epub/kepub file that they tested with then. They said they couldn't do that, but I could download a free ebook that is non-drm from the Kobo store.

I downloaded Pride and Prejudice, which is listed as DRM-FREE EPUB and the person I was working with agreed this should work. It didn't. As a comparison I sideloaded the epub and i downloaded a copy from the Kobo store via the cloud. Notetaking/markup worked great on the version downloaded via the cloud and, again, it failed 100% on the version downloaded and side loaded. On the side loaded version the pen would turn the page if i swiped it left/right, but no markup at all was able to be performed.

I have been told that my case has been transferred with an upper team so they can investigate more. Once they get an update, they will get back to me via e-mail.

It does not appear to be supported.

I just got done with Kobo support. They assured me that it does work, but " third party books will still not be fully guaranteed since we didn't code them".

it seems, i have no reason for a Sage upgrade then.

Your first line contradicts the rest. The support person seems to think that sideloaded epubs are supported. And has in fact reported it as a bug. It might come back as "not supported", but at the moment it appears to be a bug.

My Sage just arrived.

First impressions:

1- The screen with the light off looks less white than in the forma, with the light on much better, the text looks very good, it has a great contrast

2- The lighting is not perfect but it is quite uniform, better than the forma I had

3- The power button is GREAT, the one on the forma sucked, the page turn buttons are so smooth

4- It is very nice and good build quality.

That means it is a kepub. KCC (Kindle Comic Creator) is a program to generate a book from a CBR or CBZ. It generates the appropriate format for the device selected and resizes the images to fit the screen.

I was also talking with goodereader staff on this and they told me: "Kobo told me that you can’t write in sideloaded ebooks, they only work with KEPUB, which is kobos proprietary ebook format for DRM files. You can only write on those, maybe just the style you are using is not completely compatible with that, and I would wait until you get the Kobo Stylus and retest. We just got the Sage today, and an unboxing video is going up soon and review video, next week."

I have a few kindle dedrmd and converted to kepub when i shifted to kobo. I hope the kobo stylus will prove marking up sideloaded kepub is possible
