I was thrilled until I realized that it doesn't have physical buttons. A lack of buttons and the low specs (especially for the battery) pretty much leads me towards an Onyx Note for a future 10" device.

Hopefully it's a success and Kobo makes the next model with physical buttons.

I pre-ordered it today, as soon as I saw the news. Hopefully it will live up to expectations.

I bought a Forma a month ago, so that's £600 dropped on two Kobo readers. My lack of social life during lock down has paid off!

I didn't really see anybody trying to start a flame war. I saw someone making a very good point. Whenever there is some technology that comes along (we'll say an eReader in this case), someone who has extreme needs, well outside the mass of users in the middle of the distribution curve, will say "It's not good because it cannot meet my extreme needs." That is not a valid criticism.

Now, like you, I'm all for "whatever best suits your needs." Elipsa looks like a cool bit of technology and could be fun to have, but, for CA$500, I can't see it justifying its price for me. I'm sure it'll be great for some people.

Yes. And a lot more separates Android and Linux than GNU tools. They both use the Linux kernel though.

I have been waiting years for Kobo to release a 10 inch ereader. I am very tempted to get this ereader. Though I want to see the reviews first for this device.

None of them are. They are water resistant. You'll also very likely damage the USB port if you submerge the devices.

There is a first review over on "archyde.com":

- Apparently the Elipsa also supports Dropbox, like the Forma.
- They changed the design of the power button. It is now recessed / flush with the case.
- There is a separate note-taking app with handwriting recognition.

That's an interesting question. Until mention of a Note Air that has a 10.3" glass substrate display, the eInk website's only stock item with a 10.3" glass substrate is a Kaleido colour module.
