I first noticed it in an anthology where they listed all 17 authors in the attribute. The book was a real mess and I ended up with 10 or 11 #38; in a row after each author which kinda kicked me in the eye.

A rather minor nit is that there are several plugins that will pop up a message such as there is an error in part014.xhtml and offer to continue or cancel. If I select cancel, the cursor remains as the spinning circle. I haven't try selecting continue.

The cssRemoveUnusedSelectors is one of those plugins.

That will be a bug in our PluginRunner code. I will look into it.

Edit:

Actually I do not see any place in that code the wait cursor is even set. There is just a progress bar.

So please do a screen capture so I can see exactly what it is you are referring to.

Could be but it persists after the plugin is closed. Next time it pops up, I'll do a screen cap.

After cancelling a plug-in the interface waits 2 full seconds to try to reap the killed process. Does this busy cursor go away after 2 seconds by any chance?

It hangs around until I close Sigil. No operational issues, it's just an annoyance that did not happen consistently. Since I also removed and recreated my sigil ini file when I was looking at the #38; issue, it may take a while before I see the problem again.

I am very new to eBook editing and until you posted this I had never looked at the .opf file.

Looking at that file in the current edit I am doing I see there is a lot of those &#38 entries. So my question is - do I need them all there?

I looked in the opf of a blank book and I see there are no &#38 entries. I have also looked at some information regarding opf files - https://www.eboundcanada.org/Resourc...-the-opf-file/ and I can't see any reference to those.

Help please.

Go back to Sigil 1.30 then manually remove the #38; so that all that is left is a & which us the entity which represents the & char.

Or wait for a Sigil 1.4.2 release hopefully this weekend which has this bug fixed.

I assume from your reply all the & need to be in the opf file for it to function correctly?

I'm only asking because I have opened another eBook - which has not been edited with Sigil - and there are no & in the opf file

The &s have nothing to do with function. They are used to display ampersands in the metadata values/content they're contained in. The opf would "function" quite fine without them. It's just that your metadata will be missing ampersand characters. The vast majority of epubs out there probably have no &s in their OPFs.

Okay, I can not recreate this on my mac at all. Nowhere in PluginRunner is the Qt wait cursor set. I checked out cssRemoveUnusedSelectors and ran it on a book with unused selectors and tried canceling at every stage with no strange cursor problems.

Furthermore, I looked at cssRemoveUnusedSelectors plugin.py code. There are only two places in the Tk gui code where a special cursor is set and both times the "arrow" cursor is used not the "wait" or "clock" cursor.

So I am just not sure what exactly is creating a spinning disk (wait cursor) as neither the Sigil code nor the cssRemoveUnusedSelector code sets that cursor as far as I can tell.

So on this one I am stumped. It is minor enough that I do not want to hold-up a critical fix release that is the new version of Sigil-1.4.2. If you do run into it again, please grab a screenshot.

The spinning blue disk cursor is a generic Windows system cursor that can be displayed for any number of reasons.
