Unless Kobo reverted to their previous model of '1-page = x words'. Words can be counted once up front and are a pretty good metric for judging 'how long is this book?'.

As far as I recall Kobo stores words-per-chapter variable in its database. I'd assumed they used it for estimating time remaining, but I don't know.

Anyway, just think of the 'fun' to be had arguing the best value for words-per-page or the best way to count words.

no reason to regret asking the question. it's the difference of opinions that make threads like this so informative and enjoyable

oh btw, i definitely prefer one page=one screen, it's why i only read kepub.

best wishes koboy

And when the kepub change the page number after 2 pages or 3 pages per screen?!

What's happening to have this behavior?

And I me too - prefer one page=one screen

That would make life easier. OTOH, currently using page per screen numbering, so page size depends on font size, margins, etc. I really can't think of much use for page numbers in the TOC as long as the link works to get me to the chapter.

Oh, ghod!!! Been there, done that. Got the scars to show for it.

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I refuse to call it "the Scottish play".

I wouldn't mind page numbers in TOC. I like keeping track of the books I've read and how long they are, and if there is a lot of fluff (like previews from other books) I'd like to exclude it (the bar graph isn't specific enough, and clicking and going back seems too tedious.)

I delete most bonus material as it's not a bonus but previews of other books.

Doesn't Kobo use the same font and size for every book unless you (or the book) specify otherwise?

It was 320 words.

And for the in-book chapter graph.

Of course, we'd first of all have to sort out what a "word" was. And I am not going anywhere near that again.

I use different fonts in daytime (usually the book default, unless it's something really weird in which case I use Georgia or Amasis) and nighttime (Gil Sans with added weight - I can see this font better when reading with the comfort light in a dark room) and I usually have to change the font size when switching between fonts.

I wish we could choose by point size. However, in another thread on this topic someone with more technical knowledge than I explained that there are reasons why this isn't possible.

As long as there was a standard so it would be the same across different devices, font sizes, etc. I'd be willing to accept whatever it is. I'd just like to have consistency.

That's why we use em as the standard measurement for fonts.
