When/If the nia is officially announced, a new thread to be promoted at the front page would be nice.

Now I'm going to do a little research on Mothering Sunday, which (I see) happens on the fourth Sunday of Lent, so the date changes each year. Thanks. |

In the UK and Ireland "Mothering Sunday" IS called Mother's Day and has been for a long time. Most people in UK and Ireland wouldn't even know it used to be called Mothering Sunday. For most people it's purely secular, though the origin is Anglican in the UK and Ireland. Catholics do send Mother's Day cards and flowers. The Wikipedia articles are biased. Other Countries unrelated to the days of the British Empire and GB Colonies have their own Mother's Day also unrelated to the USA Mother's day or UK Mother's Day, once called Mothering Sunday which was already pretty secular in the 19th C, more about people in Service visiting home than going to the "Mother Church" even in the 18th C.
As a kid, I never realised it was movable and in Lent. One theory also about Lent is St. Patrick's Day which is often in Lent. It's a Feast Day, being he's one of the three Irish Patron Saints, though the most recent and not Irish*. A Feast Day during the Lenten Fast, hence the popularity of it especially from the 17th C. [* But England's St. George was probably Romano-Turkish and was never in England, unlike Patrick who was in Ireland. Though the Shamrock story is fake as is banishing snakes] Last edited by Quoth; 04-23-2020 at 04:38 AM. |

I did my due diligence and searched if that was mentioned. It wasn't so I can be outraged in peace.
MicroUSB ports need to be phased out in new products. It's okay, it had its run, but it's way more fragile and convoluted than USB-C. |

Why do you think that? In my perosnal expirience, usb-c have as much problems as micro usb when it comes to durability.

Until USB-C is monitored and all cables made safely, microUSB needs to stay. Sorry, but USB-C is not ready. We need a new USB standard that will actually work properly and not be so easy to screw up. A bad USB-C cable can damage your equipment. I've never read of a bad microUSB cable causing such damage.

A perfectly good USB C cable is also a problem as the USB Host end is designed to do more than 5V, high power and adds other non-USB features. It's a "utility" spec, going far beyond what any normal USB memory, peripheral or gadget needs.
A bad USB cable can also damage equipment but I've only seen ones using incorrect cable or badly made connectors rather than polarity reversed, which was the famous faulty USB C cable. Sadly the FCC, CSA and CE marks are not policed in retail. Last edited by Quoth; 04-28-2020 at 08:33 AM. |

Interesting, the only problem I know about USB-C is about Nintendo Switch, simply because Nintendo chose to not implement the PD-protocol correctly.

We really need a USB-D spec to replace the faulty USB-C spec. We need a new USB spec that can be made correctly in all cases and policed properly. What we have now is dangerous.

Jon, there's no way to have what you want. Short of figuring out how to have a single wire carry power and information, how exactly do you stop someone from screwing up. Especially manufacturers who believe in profits and do not care about producing a decent product. QC costs money so forget it.
