Hi geek1011, thanks for coming up with a solution. How do I use this quick patch? Which file do I copy-paste it into?

On kobos (at least my Aura HD, with the kernel 2.6.35-3) ntx_machine_restart is called as that is the last message forwarded to the internal serial port after both halt, poweroff and reboot were called.

That's true on many embedded devices afaik. Poweroff is then actually something like reboot + halt.

Looking at that, it seems like that does the proper poweroff. I guess there just wasn't that config option before, and it was always enabled.

Escuse me, but if Kobo does not a proper poweroff, what is the difference between within a short press of the power slide, and a long press?

It seems to me that after a long press, you have to restart the whole OS. So it seems the long press *does* a poweroff.

Of course, there is a near shutdown or a different state of power consumption with the long press. In my settings menu I set "15 minutes" for standby and "never" for power-off. With this setting the battery charge drops dramatically after a few weeks without reading and the Kobo switches off after 4 weeks at the latest. I have two older Kobos which I switched off manually. And these Kobos still have more than 50 % battery after switching on and after 6 or 8 months of non-use.

Knightreader, you know that batteries discharge if you don't use them for a long period? ;-) This does not means at all that poweroff does not... well, power off. And I'm curious to understand what is this fantastic intermedium state between suspend and power off. Maybe it's a killall * ?

Oh please... the light are turned off, also the led is turned off. Do you affirm that the cpu, ram, sd card and the motherboard does NOT power off but merely halts? So why my Kobo, when is "strongly halted", does not consume any battery?
