Not to be confrontational, but I have noticed that this forum filters out emoji. Like I can type a line of them, but as soon as I hit submit they disappear. I assume this is just because the forum software is too old to recognize them as valid input, but there seems to be something going on in the background with what characters PHP forum will and will not display.

I think one reason for using the term "spam" is to differentiate it from wanted e-mails. I mean there was always a stream of junk mail in what is now called snail mail i.e. paper mail and so we needed a term for unsolicited email to match. Spam just happened to meet the need I'm thinking.
