I am the same way. Lately I've been reading on non-front-lit readers (Sony PRS-T2 and Kindle Keyboard) and I have found that the text is much sharper and has better contrast that on my front-lit readers.

When this thread was started, Amazon had not yet released the newest "basic" Kindle, which now has a screen front-light. It was released in April of this year I believe.

The basic model being talked about in this thread is the older model that had no screen light.

I never use the front lights.
However the 300 dpi vs 167 dpi makes a big difference.
