Heh, I just remembered that I have a drawer of old devices; found my old Palm Pilot M105. It uses AAA batteries so I popped 2 in and it boots just fine. Now I need to enable the serial port on my PC so that I can transfer files to it. Is this a reasonable reader for it or is there something better?
http://www.mobyware.org/mobipocket-r...et-108327.html And this for connecting the Palm to my pc. https://www.companionlink.com/suppor..._On_Windows_10 Edit: Even better, I found a Palm III xe. And the cradle I found is for it, not the M105. And a Dell Windows Mobile PDA (not Windows CE). Now to see if its battery holds a charge ... I feel like a necromancer, waking up these dead devices. "Skeleton CSS" indeed. Last edited by lumpynose; 08-14-2019 at 02:05 PM. |

![]() Still lets you see Kindle DX and ~ how KF7 (old MOBI) would look on older devices. Helps make sure your fallback CSS works fine. Kindle Previewer 3 doesn't let you do that since it's only displaying KF8 (KFX(?) because of "Enhanced Typesetting"?). Last edited by Tex2002ans; 08-14-2019 at 09:57 PM. |

Yes, that's what's going on. that nice CSS file is being integrated into the HTML. It's a right mess when you look at the code from a Mobi eBook.

Because they'd rather people replace their old kindles than have ebook publishers tweak their books to work on old devices.

Poorly formatted books—without proper fallbacks—can still get dinged for KQNs (Kindle Quality Notices). Hitch has written about this extensively over the years.

Personally, I quite like the formatting of Feedbooks ebooks for learning on. The coding is clean and consistent; it isn't too complicated; and it includes most things you need for a book.

Well in that case it's not funny and they should incorporate some way of testing the fallbacks with the current version.
