PDFs for reading newspapers? Yuck. Calibre's fetch news works really well for me. Calibre's users also get direct access through this forum to its very responsive developer. Can't beat that.

wow this has gone way off topic. I am not looking for an RSS reader, many newspapers such as the Australian Financial Review are subscription only. They offer electronic PDFs of their papers, like many other publishers and this is what I am trying to organize around. So please no more RSS suggestions. Someone made an excellent point about screen size & resolution which is certainly an important consideration. I have uploaded a sample page from the Financial Times, maybe someone can check it out on their eBook reader and report back the 'readability' of the document:

you're simply not going to be able to read newspaper PDFs on any of the current generation of readers, hence the advice about RSS readers. And note that RSS readers can be used to access subscription content as well.
