Shouldn’t having the weight mostly on the side you’re holding it on make it feel lighter? I’m sorry; I know this is probably treading into obnoxious territory, but not having held either Oasis, I’m pretty curious.

as a scientist/engineer, i am baffled why i didn't find the Oasis 2 comfortable, but i didn't. as has been stated, with the center of mass restring more firmly in ones hand, the net "moment/torque" on the hand should be less on the Oasis 2, and hence, it should be more comfortable.
yet, when i held the Oasis 2 (owned one for 1 week and recently tried it again at the store), it made my hand hurt in spite of the weight and distribution which should help with the net moment arm. my guess is that for whatever reason, the shape of the body and weight distribution causes me to grip the device awkwardly when lying on my back in bed. most certainly if i read sitting down, or even standing, the Oasis 2 is pretty comfortable to hold. yet, lying on my back in bed, i can much more comfortably hold the Voyage or PW forming an "L" with my thumb and forefinger. even with my oasis 1, i am still finding that "L" formation with the case on is equally or maybe more comfortable than gripping the thick side of the ridiculously light Oasis 1 without a case. (i can do the L sort of thing without the case, but it doesn't feel as stable due to the thin edge) |

It could be that a closed-fist grip is less comfortable over time than the "L wedge".
Well, I've ordered not a Kindle, but the new Nook, which also has a large bezel designed for gripping. I'm curious which holding method will be more comfortable. |

I do not understand how cold is even an issue. All metal is cold. I do not notice it unless I leave the window open all day then it seems to get cold. I really like it if feels like reading a real book. I do not have issues at all as far as comfort but then again I have huge hands. I wonder if you can disable the screen rotation on it? It may make bed reading better if you lay on your side. Maybe get a "sleve" to store it in then maybe the metal will be less cold?

I have been using my Oasis 2 a few weeks now, really like it, it doesn’t feel any more heavy than the original Oasis. I have a GadgetGirl skin on it, for “traction”

I bet you, if they made the oasis with a plastic back, it would have not only cost less to make, but it would also have weighed less, and felt a lot warmer to the touch.
I dislike cold. My fingers get really cold quickly, and I prefer the natural feel of plastic, wood, or paper over metals. The metal feel, is my personal ONLY reason, I'm not purchasing an Oasis. Actually, I wouldn't have mind, if the screen could be even 0.5" bigger. My cellphone is 6", and it looks almost the same size. |
