I'm not a romance reader myself. But I bet those covers that readers are embarrassed for others to see probably also at least helped convince them to buy the book in the first place.

I like schlocky horror novels and the covers have actually been toned down, over all. I (and many others) have a soft spot for the overly lurid covers that were so popular in the '80's.

That slogan, Keep Louisville Weird was used by the Independent Business Alliance in Louisville KY. It’s on bumper stickers, signs, etc. That city vigorously supports indie businesses, which is part of what makes it a great city.

In July of 2008 Valdosta won the ESPN Titletown USA Contest.

TitleTown USA was a month-long segment on ESPN that started in the spring of 2008 and continued through July. Fans nominated towns and cities across the country based on their championship pedigree. A panel reviewed the nominees and fan voting in May determined the 20th finalist. SportsCenter visited each city in July, and fan voting July 23–27 determined the winner.

Valdosta High is not doing very good this year. Hopefully they will improve again.

Valdosta High School is home to the winningest high school football program in the United States, with a record 914 wins, 220 losses, and 34 ties, for a winning percentage of 79.44% as of November 20, 2015. From 1913-2016, the Wildcats have won six national championships in football, 24 state championships, and 42 regional championships.

The Valdosta State University Football team has won NCAA Division II National Championships in 2004, 2007, 2012.

silicon gels (like for smartphone cases) for example seem to be a good option...

My phone is well-protected by nothing more than a silicon gel case and a glass screen protector. It's light and unobtrusive; not at all like the major duty armor I've seen others encase their phones in. My ereader is naked when in use and encased in an (no longer available, unfortunately) Oberon sleeve when not, but similar protection should work well.
