If Sony can make a deal with PVI/Eink and get their screens at 100 dollar. Then put it in a plastic case with only usbconnection, relatively slow CPU and 100MB of internal memory, with no upgrade slots, mp3 and you got a machine that is cost effective half the price of the PRS505.

Sony could sell those at fabrication price and boost their ebookmarketshare. Just like how they did with their game console.

9" screens don't exist. Sony can only use components that they can get their hands on - where are these mythical 9" screens of yours going to come from? .
The hanlin V9 has the 9.7"

Sony can afford to sell the PS3 at a loss because it's a "closed system", and they make money on the games. The Sony Reader, on the other hand, is not a closed system - people who buy it do not have to buy books from the Sony eBook store, and hence there's no guarantee of any income from a customer after they've bought the Reader.

It's been well publicised what's happened to 9.7" screen production. They are not going to become available until Spring 2009 at the earliest.

settling a name at the beginning of the ebook-era would just be as important I'd say.

Who says that announcing in october means they're going to bring out anything in october? Could very well be a few months later, lessay... spring 2009?
