Try a factory reset with the Glo HD and then update the firmware.

It sounds like you're saying that you found a way to continue using the Kindle even after it had turned off and displayed the drained battery warning.

In which case, I'm not surprised that you knackered the battery. No rechargeable battery likes being completely drained, and with modern lithium-ion batteries it can kill them.

Did it. Loaded one book, read for a bit then put it on sleep. Won't wake up unless I do a soft reset. Same problem as before.

Exchanged messages already with David and he told me that all the steps mentioned in my old thread were what he would advice and if it still didn't work, it's definitely a hardware issue.

Yes. I was able to use it for a bit before it froze. I'm surprised it only took one instance of being completely drained for this to happen.

Although I did notice there were instances when I closed my third-party sleepcover and I can see light seeping from the PW3 so it meant that it didn't go to sleep like it should.

Thanks for all the help. I appreciate it.

Spoke to Amazon and best they can offer is a 20% discount even for refurbished ones. Might grab that one. Or should I wait for Prime Day in hopes that the refurbished Kindles would have even lower prices?

I'd rather go for a refurbished one this time because there's a sense of security for me that they tested it themselves and not straight from the factory where it's a game of chance if I get another lemon unit or not.

Amazon of what country?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.htm...d_i=9187220011

"Refurbished" normally means only a new cardboard box.
It translates from en_Amazon as: repackaged.

So buy the extended warranty next time.
That is recommended for people who ignore the 'dead battery' graphic and continue to use the device.

Note: Check on how you paid for it, some financial institutions offer an extended warranty for anything you buy with one of their accounts.
I.E: It might be a standard feature of your banking provider, you may have an extended warranty on this dead one.

I really don't think you've had a "lemon unit". From the sound of it, unfortunately you discharged the battery to a level below which it can be recharged. That's not the fault of the device - it gives you warning of when to charge the battery.

If you're comfortable with opening your Kindle, a cheaper option than buying a new one would be to replace the battery.

US Amazon. Refurbished apparently is tested to work and look like new so I'm good with that. I'll just have to use my forwarder again since they only ship brand new ones for free and they don't ship refurbished units internationally.

From my experience though, it doesn't fully go to sleep when I use my sleep cover. I would have thought it was a sleep cover issue had I not notice that the battery also discharges a bit quicker than my Kobo ones when I press the sleep button and leave it uncovered.

I accidentally discharge my mobile until it goes empty a few times and there were no issues so I thought it won't affect the Kindle as well.

I am actually looking into just replacing the battery but unfortunately, the forwarders refuse to ship batteries only, probably related to safety concerns. I'm on a tight budget so a refurbished one looks like my only option.

en_Amazon: "Refurbished" -
The search bar command 'shipping mode' works -
The exterior has been wiped clean -
The cardboard box is new.

Your not the first one who gets the en_Marketing from Amazon mistranslated:
"I felt something cold and shiny against my head, and I started to believe."

Can you put it in layman's terms please? anyway, refurb units seem to be okay based on feedback from other forums I read. That's the only reader with light that's within my budget so I'll probably go for it.

Factory reset then sideloading a few books. This time I sideloaded just one. Even after doing the factory reset and getting the latest firmware, I still get the random freezing, especially when waking it from sleep. I have to do a soft reset everytime.

Maybe there's a problem with the memory card. So get a new one, request the image, install them image and see what happens.
