When my father retired from the UASF in 1972 we moved to South Georgia (Moody AFB) and you could only get two channels (CBS & NBC). A couple of years later and if you put up a UHF antenna you could get a third channel (ABC).
And I remember them shutting off after around 2 AM. Oh how the world has changed in just a few short years. ![]() Apache |

In the meantime, I'm using the kindle cloud reader whenever I feel like turning a page with a click of mouse.

So I too was looking for this functionality and stumbled upon this thread after many google searches, but I also happened to find this:
https://github.com/tylpk1216/KoboPageTurner I tried it out and it works well! Kudos to the guy who made it. So for any people stumbling upon this thread looking for this functionality, try that github link out!!! |

I am a fan of anything that makes reading more accessible.
My mother, who is not a reader, had a massive stroke a few years back and would not be able to hold a device now if she wanted to. But she could press a button were she to have a remote wedged into her hand. And, of course, less dramatic than a stroke, people here have been talking for years about having joint or other degenerative issues that prevent them from holding physical books anymore. I assume that a remote would ease discomfort even for those only using the lightest of e-readers if it allowed them to put the book on a stand or table and only need to press a button. |

Also good if the device is placed so far away that you can't reach it with your hands - or by foot switch if the device is used e.g. for notes when playing the piano.

I can see how it would benefit those with disabilities. I do not think I would make much use of such a thing. I would not want it as default in a reader as it would be increase cost. But since readers have WiFi/BT, including an API to support optional remotes would be a good idea and that wouldn't cost much.
As for TV remotes, I remember when it was a matter of convenience. Before we got a remote for the TV, I was my parent's remote control. But today, the remote is a necessity. There are so many functions that you couldn't control everything from the set. |

Since we have revived this old thread, I’ll just add that in addition to simple page turners, I would like to have Bluetooth keyboard support, including implementing keyboard shortcuts and navigation.

If the remote is optional, why would it add to thecost, BT licensing? And why add an API, just use existing BT devices for remotes.

While I have no need or use for a remote, I can see the use of such.
The remote could have other buttons/arrow keys for navigating the GUI and when in a book, being able to highlight and lookup words in the dictionary and use the on-screen keyboard. |
