Try the repair function. The only thing you have to lose is the amount of time it takes. But, if calibre did the collection management, the next time you connect, it should redo it.

It might be worthwhile checking that the Calibre: Send to Device setting is on Automatic Management so it syncs metadata and collections on each connection to the device. The other 2 settings are more restrictive.

I have only sideloaded epubs on the Kobo but had connected to Calibre a few times before I thought to check the Collections. No problems that I can see.

Before any of you try to fix your collections, wait for the new firmware that just came out.

4.3.8842 is the new version.

See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=283866 for the thread about it.

Did not fix side-loaded collections, at least not for me.

After finally having time to attempt collection fixing via this method, Calibre has informed me that collection management is disabled since the Kobo H2O is running an unsupported firmware.

Sigh. Just check the box in the driver configuration that says to allow unsupported firmware.

Trust me, if there was ever a release that broke calibre functionality, there would be posts from either davidfor or mhyself warning people.

If only the error message had told me to do that.

If you read enough of the message to see that collection management was disabled, why didn't you read the rest? It clearly tells you what to do. The message is:

Code:
Your Kobo is running an updated firmware/database version.
As calibre does not know about this updated firmware,
database editing is disabled, to prevent corruption.
You can still send books to your Kobo with calibre,
but deleting books and managing collections is disabled.
If you are willing to experiment and know how to reset
your Kobo to Factory defaults, you can override this
check by right clicking the device icon in calibre and
selecting "Configure this device" and then the
"Attempt to support newer firmware" option.
Doing so may require you to perform a factory reset of
your Kobo.
But, as well as that, I had already posted in the thread for the 4.3.8842 firmware the calibre status. It was in this post. I didn't say how to get to the option, but, if anyone had problems, they just needed to ask.

I should probably just have posted the second half of my first post: I've decided to wait to restore my collections until I either have an evening's worth of time to spend on it (because I want to check and see if they all return as they were), or until a new version of Calibre comes out, whichever happens first.

I kind of assumed that was implied from the fact I read the whole message, and decided not to follow the instructions in it.

My bad, I guess.

Blossom, it's quite fast to patch it. It has taken me ten minutes this morning... creating the files myself from a previous version. The most important thing? Keep info about which are the patches you have activated, so the change yes/no in the files goes fast.

Mine are bit more tweaked than that. I use Notepad+ but I'm not near a computer. Luckily it hasn't updated yet.

I use Notepad++ as well. I load both versions of the patch files and then do a compare. I then update the new patch file using the old patch file to see what I've enabled and what settings I've changed.

Now if you'd like, after I update the new patches, I can send you a copy.
