Large screen eInk devices aren't new either, they've been around since 2006.

You're right, and it's a pity they are taking so long to come to market en masse. Fortunately we are finally seeing more companies using larger screens in their devices. But prices will only drop if they are made easily available to people so that they will buy them. And I think they would. For example, the Kobo Aura One was sold out for a while. And that's without the Amazon store on-board. I wonder why Kobo doesn't position its products in stores in the USA. Not wishing to be repetitive, but I can only suppose they don't feel they can compete against Amazon and it's online store. Presumably this is why Sony dropped out. Pity. I think diversity is good for competition and innovation. Oh well. It seems different sized screens will remain an obscure product unknown among the vast majority of US buyers, and as such the prices will remain high. C'est la vie.

Yeah. Kobo bugged out of the U.S. along with the closing of Borders.
In the States, finding any e-ink device in a store is unlikely. My local Best Buy has a small Kindle display and B&N has Nooks, but that's about it. Target and Walmart used to carry a few of each, but I haven't seen either in a long time. |

Unfortunately. Best Buy used to carry them as did Frys, Family Christian and Borders. It would be nice if they were available somewhere in a B&M setting, other than the few independent book stores that sell them (if there are any left).
