[edit]. Couldnt help it. Downgraded my 6s. Luckily I had a backup that wasnt too old. That was not the case with the iPad Air 2. Last edited by kyteflyer; 09-23-2016 at 10:56 PM. Reason: More info |

I tried using Siri a couple of times and it was a disaster. I suppose it's inevitable, I would need to invest time to learn how to use it. When I do a Google search, I instinctively word it in a way that I think the machine will understand, but I find it hard to do that when speaking. As for 3D Touch, I still don't know how that's supposed to work. I'm getting old! ![]() |

Mashable: 7 reasons not to update to iOS 10 (notifications is not one of them).
Notifications have always been a pain under iOS anyway. You'd think after all this time they would have figured out how to make them at least as good as Android's. |

What's wrong with notifications? They do the job they're there for: to notify you of appointments, new email, etc. They seem perfectly satisfactory to me.

I couldn't tell you exactly how, but they feel disruptive most of the time. I have them turned off for most apps. But then I guess it won't matter much to me if they don't look right under iOS 10!

I hate how they've now lumped notifications by "day" instead of by "app" as it was previously. It was so easy to clear away all notifications on an app-basis earlier with one swipe. Now it's swiping them away one by one.

One problem I do have on iOS 10 on my iPhone 6 is that some web pages aren't loading correctly in Safari. When I load the page initially, it's fine, but if I refresh it, it only partially loads. That's a real pain - hope they fix it soon.

But but but... that's the one thing that made the Notification Center usable for me! With the most recent on top, I don't NEED to delete them as I used to. But anyway, I thought that was an option? Yes, I just checked, and all you have to do (presumably) is to activate the "sort by app" option in settings.

Well, I have now also downgraded my iPhone 6S and it just feels better. Theres no sense in that remark but I am happy with the decision. My backup was a couple of weeks old but it made little difference to the end result because the apps I needed to have updated data for (diabetes apps, and reading) were all accounted for by either Dropbox or iCloud so I lost nothing. I'm happy.

Strange. Which version of iOS do you use? I'm still on 9. Here's a screen copy.

Unfortunately companies like Apple and Amazon have the same business philosophy towards consumers: "Take what we sell you and be happy about it, it is what you really want whether you realize it or not." From what I'm hearing though, I think I definitely do NOT want iOS 10. I don't think I would hate it, but I just don't see any features that I really want. So why slow down my system with a lateral-grade and more bloat? I'll wait for a true up-grade.

I guess I'll throw in a dissenting opinion...iOS 10 is my favorite iOS release since Ive implemented his new playskool UX look.
Agreed that the notifications are a bit more intrusive, and the control panel wastes space. I guess Apple just can't help themselves. OS X updates have changed my Mac Pro's power button behavior on a yearly basis for years despite the first iteration being the best. Yet features that need serious improvement go unchanged, like iBooks, which needs to be trashed and started over entirely. Back to iOS, what I love about iOS 10 is the faster UX effects. I can open folders and apps now without feeling like I'm waiting. All around performance seems better and more consistent on my 6+. Pushing the home button to simultaneously read my print and unlock is now wicked fast. The subtle lock sound is thankfully unobtrusive, but I worry it will change again next year. The new widgets panel works great, but open it on a white background and Holy Lack Of Contrast! Apple's war on contrast continues unabated. All in all a fine release. My two issues with Apple's OSes will never be fixed apparently: iBooks (shudder) and the lack of a Finder in iOS. How cool would it be to be able to connect to your Mac via your home LAN and browse the hard drive? It would be like using a computer! |
