There are also folks who put reserve prices on stuff NOT to sell the item but to find out how much interest it garners by people checking out the ad.
Even some cross stitch books are now valuable.

No kidding. I have a pattern that sells on ebay for anywhere between $25 and $85. Putting it up in October, so maybe I'll get enough to pay for both my basic ereader AND cover.

A Pat and Gloria?
Or a Lavender & Lace?
Or a HAED? (Heaven and earth design)

I'm not particularly trying to bump this thread, but I just listed an item on eBay for the first time in quite a while, and I just noticed that on the listing page, under the field to enter a reserve price, which obviously I rarely pay any attention to, eBay says this:

Tip: Most items sell best without a reserve price.
Rather than add a reserve price, consider increasing your starting price or switching to a fixed price format.

Yes, now that fixed price format is free (you used to be charged for that), I use fixed price instead of auction or reserve. There is also a feature called Best Offer that you can choose or not. Sometimes I'll go with it, sometimes I won't, but at least I'm getting a price that I'm comfortable with.

There are rare occasions where large sections of the East cannot access Ebay (weather) - I benefited from one of those auctions as there wasn't anybody to bid against me. It's unfortunate that you can't get Ebay to put a hold on auctions when so many potential bidders can't get in to bid.
