from perusing the specs, for forty bucks more the Paperwhite looks to be the better deal. A bit heavier but nearly the same size. Same size screen with nearly twice the resolution, and a backlight.
It's been a while since I've had a dedicated Eink reader rather than a phone or tablet. Has the page turn flicking issue been solved? |

That was my impression. It was light enough but its shape was kind of "blocky." The "Kindle 8" is lighter, shorter, narrower and just as thin as the Paperwhite -- it's even lighter than the Voyage, about the same height and width, though a little thicker. I like the original Touch better, but I wouldn't have an trouble using the Kindle 7 or 8 if it came down to it. Except I like being able to add fonts to the Touch. And I like the old Kindle interface better than the new.

I really wish Amazon would make a "cheap budget voyage" with real physical buttons again. I've tried a few store demos of touch-only e-readers and I simply don't like having to put my finger on the screen and back off to skip to the next page. With my NT Kindle I just keep holding the device and simply apply slightly more pressure with the joint of my thumb. No need to move your finger around, easy as pie. The only thing I want on my Kindle 4 is a backlight. But $200 for an ereader (voyage) is simply too expensive for my tastes, particularly because i was not able to find a store demo of the voyage to see if the touch sensitive PagePress sensors would deliver a similar satisfying feedback like the hardware buttons
![]() Either way, the bluetooth connectivity on this thing sounds like a great idea for visually impaired people, kudos for accesibility here, amazon. Not something I am going to need, though. While I am far from filling the 2Gb of my kindle (in fact, I should have more than half of that available, still) I can see how the jump to 4Gb can be benefical for power readers. And I didn't notice the weight or dimensions either, when I was using it. Those details vanished from my perceptions when I was reading.
But it was bigger than the KPW. Frankly, I got the impression that Amazon had intentionally made it big anf blocky to make it less attractive than the KPW, and give them something to improve upon in the next model. |

Yes and no,.. Kindle uses a page refresh method (the name of which escapes me.) that minimizes E-ink ghosting problems. By default, Kindles do not a full page refresh (black flash) unless there are images, or on chapter breaks after several pages. However, when reading with my glasses off and holding the device close, I notice a definite loss of sharpness that way, and prefer to read with the option of full page refreshes. The speed of a page refresh has certainly improved dramatically over the first few generation of devices.) |

Without physical page turn buttons I don't see any reason to replace what I have now. I haven't looked at a recent Kindle version in person in a while, maybe I should check out how the text resolution looks on these latest models.

I heard a Kindle with white frame would make the e-ink background display looked more grayish instead of white. Is that true? Or would the white Kindle feel more like a book since a real printed book doesn't have a black frame around the pages.
