Question

I jumped on the bandwagon and sent in my Kindle Keyboard on Jan 16. Due to the bad weather it arrived there at Amazon on Jan 22. But as of yet the "Open Trade in Page" still says processing. Today is Jan 29. That seems like a long time for the transaction to process....doesn't it?? How long do you suppose this is suppose to take?

Mine took about a week to complete processing. The gift card balance and promo credit were applied immediately after they finished.

Mine also took about a week.

Katie, I compared the Kindle Voyage and the Paperwhite 3 next to each other at Best Buy today.

Size: Paperwhite3 is larger and slightly heavier. Advantage: easier to grip than Voyage. Both are pretty close to the size of a paperback, but much thinner.
Buttons: Paperwhite has no buttons, Voyage has pseudobuttons
Dictionaries are the same - advanced from the Kindle Keyboard
Text - It was REALLY close. Both are great. Voyage had a slight edge.
Lighting: Both have a scale of 24. Paperwhite is manually set, Voyage has both manual and automatic.

We have had nothing but dull days with no bright light, but in my experience, the Kindle Keyboard edges out my Mom's Paperwhite1 in direct daylight. Haven't tried the Voyage yet, but it has a similar screen. While the glass screen significantly reduces chances of damage, the glare issue cannot be eliminated on the same scale as they did for the Kindle Keyboard and similar models. So if you read in a sunny room, you'll perhaps have an easier time with a Kindle keyboard, Nook ST or Glo.

Kindle Keyboard has a tad less than 3 gigs of space and has no ads. Voyage/Paperwhite3 have tad less than 4 gigs of space and has ads, although you can pay an extra $20 to remove those.

Tarana--I'll be interested to see what you find when you read with your Voyage in bright/sun light. I read frequently with my Voyage outside in sunlight and am very happy with it--no glare issues at all.

I have read on my Voyage while sitting in the sun on the beach several times and never had any problems with glare.

Ok, today we had scads of sunlight, so I compared the Kindle Keyboard with the new Voyage. Both do excellently although I think the keyboard has a slight edge because it doesn't 'mirror' background images. The KK has a bluish cool background while the Voyage has a warmer grey background. Could easily read from either. However, when birds flitted around the window, I could see little reflections in the Voyage that I didn't see with the KK. Just a momentary distraction with that mirroring effect. Thus, don't use a Voyage in an aviary garden, but otherwise, I think you would be happy reading with either as far as that feature is concerned.

With the Voyage it was kindof annoying not to be able to turn on the text-to-speech when I had to give my eyes a break. Not everybody would have this issue - I have severe dry eye and didn't want to stop reading because I was at a good point in my book. Alas, no choice. With the KK, I have it set for text-to-speech and can just start that up when I need it.

I still have more power draw from the battery with the Voyage. Not as bad as out of the box, but I still think the KK is going to be better for battery usage unless you really need that lighting. Next week, I will try side-by-side by turning OFF the lighting on the Voyage and see how it compares. I don't want to unfairly pit apples and oranges against each other.

I have used my Fire Phone to read outside. Found you can elimate the birds, etc by making the lights as Bright as you can. Try that see how it does.

I jumped on the 10" Fire Tablet sale today!! & with the Battery Boost I also got ... I am hoping it becomes my main ereader. Will see....

Katie, snow again, so no sunlight to test your theory. My sister prefers the Fire for reading and mostly reads in just two places, so no annoyances. She is a 'bed' reader with relatively poor lighting in her room, so rather ideal. I love my Nook HD+ tablet (larger screen) for reading magazines, but it is heavier. I only use it to read in the recliner, so I can use a pillow to support it, so the weight then becomes a non-issue. Just letting you know in advance about that.

The biggest problem with the Fire and any tablet really, is the power consumption. You can get 10 foot cords at Walgreens so that you can be charging and reading at the same time, but that can bend the wires resulting in a broken cord. I have had one broken cord in 6 years of ithings and ereaders and that's because I rolled over it with my rolling chair. My sister and brother have had their Fires for about 2 months now and have ruined 4 cords between them. So plugged in while using can become expensive.

Make sure it is not the cheap fabric covered cords. They may or may not charge a fire. I know they won't charge a Galaxy.

Tarana... I read Mostly in Bed also. Problem with Fires is Battery Life But Hey, Yesterday I went to Best Buy & purchased a 10" Fire Tablet! On Sale $209 [32 gig] Top that off the sales person talked me into a 13 hour Battery Boost! You guest it too was on sale So I am hoping between the 8 hours the Fires Battery has & the 13 hours the Boost has = 21 hours! Hey IF this works I may buy a few more boosts! Tell your Sister about it Save on Electric cords My aversion on using a cord is I DID try that! Woke with the Cord Wrapped Around my Neck!! Another friend was using a tiny PC laptop in bed one nite the damn cord Caught Fire! Thankfully she was awake! Shocking her DH is Fire Chief! We Both Warned her Bedclothes & cords!

UPDATE!! The Battery Boost WORKED! I listen to a 8 hours Fire Battery + 13 hours on the Boost = 21 Hours total
Loved it so well I went back & got 2 more Battery Boosts! I would have never tried these at their Reg price of $40! But they well Worth the $10 each I paid! Grab them while they have them they are on Clearance!!

Thanks for the tip. I'll pick up a battery boost for her tomorrow. Take care and enjoy that new Fire!

Sheesh, a week for processing? I was hoping to get $20 off the $20 off price they are offering this week on Paperwhite (it just arrived at its final destination today). I may have to call CS and wheedle.

The promo credit specifies that it's not to be used with any other discount. That's not to say it DOESN'T work, just that you should be prepared for them to tell you no based on that.

I interpret that to mean you cannot combine with another offer, temporary price reduction is not an 'offer' (in my opinion). But we'll see if I even have an opportunity to try, as the clock is running down.
