I don't use it with sleep in mind. I just use it when I happen to read on my phone. It just makes the screen better for my eyes, can't describe it. Makes the backround a nicer more contrasted color to the font and just makes it easier on my eyes. I can't really read in bed as I fall asleep to fast. I always end up waking with my Voyage on my chest if I try. Or a cat on my head.

I don't understand all the hoopla about screen color and sleeping. I'm lucky if I get a few pages in before I crash at night.

Hubby looks first for the Kindle on the nightstand. If it isn't there it's gotta be in the bed somewhere, so it ends up on the nightstand thanks to him.

I don't think the HD 8 actually has a blue filter. It looks like an orange to red filter overtop of the display. It turns anything black to the color level you choose. The screenshots from Play Books looks like it filters out blue instead of a filter over top of everything - the font stays black. If you use the blue filter on the Fire HD 8 with the screen background set to black it looks really bad. Play books only changes the color of the white text, not the background. Here's screenshots from the HD 8 and Play books on my Tab S both using a black background as the starting point:
