General concensuses are fine for somebody else's money. My subjective priorities trump them completely when it's my money. That said, I think that screen whiteness, screen resolution, front light quality, and page turn speed are still improving at a rate that makes the replacement battery less of an issue. When the technology matures then it will be an issue. |

No going back from the 6.8" screen for me. It looks like an actual book instead of an electronic gadget.

Just to chime in -
I bought an h2o. Loved it except for pdfs. When I had to replace it, I was looking at the kindles. I tried my 9 yr olds kindle, and rather liked the pdf experience. If you put it in landscape mode, it would display the page in something like 1/3 page chunks with each turn. It actually worked really well for me on various technical pdfs. By contrast, I hated the h2o's way of zooming - the pdf's seemed to slosh around. Koreader solved the problem for me, it works pretty much the same way as my daughters kindle, but I get the much better screen of the h2o. Bottom line: I am pretty happy with the h2o with koreader. |

So I am very happy with my newly purchased Aura. The background seems a little greyer than the old WiFi, so I always have a little light on to brighten that up. If I was going to go a different route, I would most like go with the H2O to get the bigger screen size, but then the cost difference is pretty significant. |

I had upgraded from the Glo to the Glo HD. I liked the HD but didn't see it as a drastic improvement. But it broke very fast, and when deciding about a replacement, I was wavering between the PW3 and the H2O.
I ended up giving the H2O a try, and so far I'm really enjoying the bigger screen. I'm not 100% sold on it yet, I'll have to see whether the larger size will turn into an impediment in my practical usage. But in terms of sheer reading experience, I prefer the H2O. Incidentally, while researching and deciding about the replacement, I fell back on my old Nook Touch, and kind of fell in love with it again. That was a nice, well-engineered device. And with a recent custom ROM and Coolreader, i really enjoyed the handling experience. |

I think the 6.8" screen is much more comfortable than a 6" one once you start reading.

Nothing memorable really "happened". I had it in its cover within my backpack. And the next time I tried to use it, the LED light still came on, but the screen kept showing the screensaver book cover. The USB connection was dead, and none of the known reset options worked. I even tried it with known good backup SD cards. No reaction. It still looked flawless from the outside.

My Kobo Aura died a few days ago after 2.5 years of very good use :( Typically in a place where I could not get a replacement (I'm on holiday). But there was a wifi connection, and I did read this thread and a couple of others from here that helped me in my decision as to go for a h2o or a glo hd :)
Back on the continent, and still on holiday, I went to buy a new one this morning. Decided that although I loved the 6" form factor of the aura (and already have a case/cover), I would go for the larger h2o for the bigger screen (that can hold more text) experience. Although in the first shop I went to, they were selling the original aura for 100 EUR, compared to 130 for the glo hd and 180 EUR for the h2o... Luckily at this partcilaur point of my life I do not always have to go for the "bargain" / better value item, so I came home with a h2o. And the retailer I purchased from has promo where I get 20 EUR of free ebooks, so that's good. Anyway, time to unbox, connect to calibre and get on with my reading :) Thanks to all who commented here and in the other thread! |
