February Book Club Vote

I'm having to read The Age of Innocence on my iPad because while on the road I have no way to sideload the Mobileread download to my Kindle. How do people who read on tablets on a regular basis put up with all the glare? Yuck!

On the plus side, the first few chapters are pretty engaging. I think I'm going to like this one.

I have not been able to start The Age of Innocence due to other commitments. Hopefully I can catch up before the discussions begin.

My current read isn't available through my library as a Kindle book and I am having to read on my phone through Overdrive. Ugh.

In your case, couldn't you get a free copy from Amazon that could be delivered to your Kindle if it bothers you that much? I think I would prefer even a copy that isn't formatted/proofed as well (to a point) on my Kindle to reading a perfect copy on my phone/tablet. Even if you only have a WiFi Kindle you should be able get wifi for free somewhere fairly easily.

Well, yesterday I finished reading The Executioner's Song by Normal Mailer; 1100 pages of completely engrossing reading about murder, death row, mental health problems and every emotion under the sun. As soon as I finished I started reading The Age of Innocence, but I hadn't quite shaken the other from my head.
So, I had tortured dreams of a dapper Daniel Day Lewis in a dirty death row cell, waltzing with a burly correctional officer!
Perhaps I should have just watched some TV.

Thanks. I may do that. Or maybe I'll just continue reading it on the iPad since I've already started.

Sometimes it helps to read on the tablet by changing the background color, altering brightness or using an app with a textured background. Try shifting your tablet angle or moving to a different spot to alter the lighting. Those are my best recommendations that work for me. Good luck!

The hospital provides WiFi for patients and their guests, and for privacy I have a Verizon hotspot. I downloaded the book a couple of hours ago, but gave up looking for the free one on my Kindle and paid 99¢ for an illustrated version. Bonus: It contains a brief biography of Edith Wharton.

It is weird how they hide the free one. When I searched for it earlier it was 3-4 down the list and had no image with it so very easy to skip past it given the way their results show up.

Either way, I am glad you found a good copy and I hope the hospital stay goes smoothly for you or your family.

I may start this tomorrow. I haven't decided yet. I know I certainly won't start it tonight as I am too darn tired/sleepy. It'll manga (continuing Kitchen Princess) on deck if I read anything at all.

I like this one. I'm fourteen chapters into it, and see major trouble ahead for young Mr. Archer.

Wish I could say the same. I supported it, but I'm finding it really hard going. I've started it three times, and put it down three times.

I found it a slog myself. If it wasn't for my commitment to reading the book club selections, I would have quit very early on. The bright side is that is less than 300 pages!
