Thanks guys! Do you also get a greyish, blueish glowing tint in the dark (even with a lamp) with those settings? I mean, I was hoping for a whiter background, can't get used to that weird glow.

I get more of a pink/orange tint. I know it's there, but I rarely register it anymore.

With the light off, the new PW2 looks way better then the old pW2. But with the light high enough, both don't look good for different reasons. The old one is washed out. The new one has very noticeable color shifts. To me, neither are acceptable.

The new PW2 screen is best described as having a "creamy" tone to it.It is not completely white.I dont notice any color shift in real life.Must be the camera. |

I agree completely. As I mentioned before, it took me five purchases to get two acceptable "white" PW2s and one of them is slightly darker in lighting when compared side by side. That said, they were the best of the five. Since I use it solely in the bedroom the difference is inconsequential.

I'm on my second PW2, in the last two weeks, so I'm gonna return both of them tomorrow and try one more time (I'm not holding my breath, though). It does look like a crapshoot game. I agree.
First one is more or less evenly lit, except that it has two shadows at the bottom of the screen, smack dab in the middle of it, that a triangle is formed on the last 15-20% of the page when text is displayed. The second PW doesn't have shadows (at least not in the bottom center of the screen, they're a bit to the sides), but it's half-tone: the upper half considerably darker, more amber than full-blown yellow... No thanks. At my day job I work with tablets mostly, doing QA (Quality Assurance) for various software developers, and these inconsistencies stand out to me like a bad sore. So the heck with that. Amazon released the PW in 2012 and we're entering 2015. They had ample time to perfect it. If the third one isn't perfect I'm giving up on this generation of e-readers. The seller is going to hate me, but I really don't care. Too bad the Kobo Aura H2O isn't available in my country... It supports ePub, PDF, CBZ/CBR... Freaking Amazon with their closed-minded business practices... AT LEAST DO THE HARDWARE RIGHT, DAMMIT! |

DSpider, dont put too much onus on the H2O I have just returned 2 of them for the same reason you have returned your PW2s, both had uneven lighting, the second one 3 of the 5 LEDs were yellow, 1 was cream and 1 was white...

Sorry to revive this, but I've just had the chance to compare a PW2 bought right at the end of 2014 with one bought in mid 2013. I tried a couple in 2013 (one very blotchy screen and one with a better screen but an ominous creaking noise coming from one corner when held very lightly).
Third PW2 was perfecto. Great screen, very light cream, dead even, bit of lighting evident down by the LEDs but other than that very uniform. Husband had thought I was crazy to change again, but was totally converted when he saw how much better the third-time-lucky version was. Unfortunately, due to the rez, the letters are not so well defined and the text was always very slightly 'milky' - for want of a better word. and I had argued myself out of 3G which I later regretted. Ordered a second PW2 for family end of 2014, and the text was darker. I took it back to compare with my husband's PW2 (the one i found blotchy he could live with) and indeed, the text is darker compared with that one too. But, there is a pink cast to the bottom left hand corner. This is just an analysis of the ones I have had in my hot little hands, not to say all are like this, that everyone sees the same thing, that if you don't see what I see you are wrong - blah. Just that in comparison with two, 2013 PW2s the one 2014 I have seen had darker text. And it does have the boost to the storage capacity. |

Just to add, the greyish blue-ish tinge the OP mentions is a deal breaker for me, when it arises. I returned the Voyage mainly for that reason and the PW1 I had was blue-ish which made reading from my good PW2 a real pleasure in contrast.
I've decided i'll take a slightly uneven screen and even a couple of pin holes, but I just can't do a blue-ish glow. |

A bit late to the thread, but I would like to say that I replaced my PW2 4 times. That is, I've had 5 kindles. It's the first e-reader I've owned, and all of them had pinholes, or had pinholes and were yellow.
I still have the last 2 kindles, which means I have to decide between a smaller pinhole with a white screen and a smaller pinhole with a yellow screen. Asking for more replacements is probably a bit crazy, and after reading those stories about them closing accounts with too many replacements when buying on amazon, I'm scared. It's been a somewhat disappointing experience, and wanted to share it. |

He was polite, but none of these things seem to be true. I have specifically seen people saying they were banned after doing what support told them, and this is why getting a 6th PW2, when keeping in mind the returns of the other products I bought, seems like a gamble. The side effect is that buying technology from them is probably risky for me now, and I don't want to be stuck with defective, non working products. He told me to ignore those crazy stories of the internet, and to keep buying. I'm not sure how many things I'm expected to buy, or how long I'm supposed to wait until the next return. All my returns were due to broken/non working products (a phone that didn't charge, etc). All I'm saying is the kindle spiral of doom may be dangerous for your account. Or maybe not, nobody really knows. I am, however, stuck with a less than perfect screen, and face an uncertain future. For example, buying a new model next year could be risky, because 1 or 2 replacements may always be required. |

if you prefer the Voyage I have found to have a much whiter screen. I have a paperwhite2 and I like a screen.
