That explains a lot about your interpretation of the film. Was it the head injury that turned all your text magenta? Kind of like in The Wizard of Oz, or Blazing Saddles when everything suddenly switches to color? (Though the latter hardly bears mentioning in this thread!)

I didn't see it, but considering the robots never go on a rampage in any of Asimov's stories, and "I, Robot" is the title of a collection of short stories, not a novel or individual story, I thought it was pretty clear that they'd made the whole thing up. I can only imagine the fuss Asimov would have put up if he'd been alive, given the stink he made at the premiere of 2001 over HAL's actions.

As a film, I rather liked the Postman...I have to admit though, that I didn't read the book.

But from what I read, the author actually enjoyed what Kevin Costner did with it.

Do you mean the movie "Manhunter"? I know that was intended as a film version of the novel "Red Dragon." I saw it ... didn't make me want to tear my ears off ... but also didn't impress me as being better than the book, which was pretty amazing.

I didn't see the remake ... not absolutely certain I want to. However, did you prefer the second version ... or just really hate both of them??

Paul Verhoeven does beautiful work. If one looks at the absolute "info-tainment" shows and observes the squalid state of journalism online, and then watches the opening sequence of ROBOCOP , it is apparent that our man is either a pre-cog, or gave some truly evil people some really bad ideas.

Starship Troopers is a magnificent action flick that parodies the WWII films full of righteous indignation and hatred. Would argue that is has a particular resonance now to our current armed conflicts. However, will concede that the film strays very far from Mr. Heinlein's original. Personally, think ol' Bobby would have gotten a kick out of Izzy being a slutty redhead hell-bent on bedding Johnny Rico.

As for absolute atrocities that make me want to murder everyone involved in the process?

Two words:

Johnny. Mnemonic.

I watched that a couple of weeks ago, and while it must have seemed pretty cheesy 10 years ago, the strange technical references, cheap style, and over-the-top acting just give it a Battlefield Earth kind of a vibe.

What do you guys think of the Super Mario Bros. movie from the early '90s? It's generally considered a pioneering effort in the genre of bad video game adaptations, but I think it kind of has its charm and serves as a pretty imaginative expansion on the characters from the games and their world. It's really cheesy, for sure, but not particularly unwatchable.

I'm a fan of Stephen King's "Richard Bachman" novels, my particular favourite being "The Running Man". Well, they made a Schwarzenegger vehicle out of this story and imho it sucks bigtime.

I liked Manhunter when I saw it in the cinema 1987. It was a well done thriller. I had totally missed that there was a remake of it.

Yes, Manhunter. I hated it so much that I blanked the name.

The remake was waaaaay better than the original. I thnk it did the book adequate justice, inasmuch as any film of a novel leaves out lots of stuff.

I've never seen the remake to compare, but I will offer two counters to your argument, the first to which I will listen to your objection that its argument is completely subjective, at least in the superficial and salacious sense in which I intend it, and the second one to which I won't listen to any objection at all because I've got it turned up to eleven and am so rocking out at the moment with an air-drum-solo that the neighbours are approaching with pitchforks and firey torches and a glint in their eye that says "Burn him with the midnight oil!":
