It would be interesting to know if people physically see differently, or if some are just more sensitive to colour nuances than others.

Difference is all the items you've mentioned do not emit the light, they reflect the light so it's natural for them to have a gradient.

For the premium consumer device it's unnatural (to a point of being called defective) to have a colour gradient on the screen.

Maybe that's why you're having issues accepting the Kindle screen? The lights on the Kindle do NOT shine out at the person reading, they are pointed down onto the reflective screen, and then the light is reflected back to the person reading. Therefore, it seems from what you're saying that it would be natural for the Kindle to have a gradient as well.

And yet my PW screen doesn't have any colour gradient, go figure.

However you phrase it, the KV screen (as a complete unit) does emit light.
