Ok thanks for the replies.
I'll stick with my PW and PW2 then. I have to many epubs to buy a Voyage. I's a shame that PW and PW2 have no physical buttons though. I tried an android eink reader (Icarus Illumina) but it's really not smooth. I tried to go back to the kindle Keyboard that had physical buttons but I messed the backlight and the speed too much ![]() Well if you guys need help, I'm still here ![]() |

Yeah, the button is pretty much the only reason I refuse to move on from my Kindle Touch.
If the Voyage just had one more haptic button, I would probably cave and buy it (and serial-JB it...) |

If you have a Touch, there is no button for next page, right ? About the Voyage, I considered serial JBing it but apparently most hacks won't work (I absolutely need epubs and so koreader) Right ? |

I think he means the home button on the Kindle, which is also why I'm not upgrading to a KV at this moment.

I tried to convert the epubs to mobi or asw3 with calibre and various online services and there's always a problem. A table that is broken, or something else. Converting is clearly a no brainer but the result is far from acceptable. It is ok for plain novels but the minute you include tables or a framed paragraph, it's not a viable option anymore.

I have converted... not countless, but quite many epub texts - mostly novels, you are right - and I have had no problems so far with the few tables one might get. But I wonder which texts are you reading that have so much tables in it that one could not handle when transposed in azw. Academic texts, that may be.. but in that case, .epub itself is not the right mean to read it, and you should have plenty of problems in that format as well... |

Well, I usually convert from epub to azw3 because I like to use certain kindle functions that are only available on azw3 (like page numbers). But azw3 actually contains a mobi into it, so if you are only interested in the epub content, mobi should be enough; so you might try: epub 2 mobi or epub 2 azw3.
However, while I'd be happy to help I wouldn't go so far as calling myself an expert: it is true that I have converted a lot of epubs, but as I said, I never encountered so many problems, so I don't know if I would be able to handle them should them arise! |

Conversions tend to work very well if no complicated features are used. As soon as tables get thrown in, you have to have an ebook that was built very carefully to begin with -- and it needs to be designed to work on each device/format combo or you are asking for trouble. Or so I've heard...
In other words, the problem could just as easily have been the other way, if things had been different. There is a reason professional ebook makers (the ones who actually do what they are paid to) charge a lot. Hang out in the Vent and Rant thread, or the Workshop forum, and you will be privy to many highly entertaining rants by @Hitch, who does this for a living. The ToC is a rather simple feature, and should be correctly converted almost all the time (but sometimes people do really weird things to them ![]() MOBI to anything else will probably give the best results -- because you cannot do a lot of complicated things with them, so it will only have stuff which converts cleanly. |
