Actually, Abu's post (which as I pointed out is grossly in error) made me think of something that happened in my old neighborhood. The people living right next door to us had a poodle. We had a cat .... a big ol' orange tabby male that took no guff from anyone. He OWNED that neighborhoodl.
He and the poodle were really good friends and you would see them together in the poodle's yard just taking in the sun. Then, people who had a doberman moved in on the other side of the poodle. And, eventually, there came a day when the poodle got through the fence and into the doberman's yard. It was at that point that the doberman attacked the poodle and began to make a bloody pulp of him. Super cat to the rescue. Out old tabby took on that doberman .... you never saw a faster moving set of teeth and claws ... I ended up running over there simply because I could hear both dogs and my cat screaming at the top of their lungs. As soon as my cat had the doberman cornered, I was able to get in there, grab the poodle and take him to the vet. The doberman's owners were smart enough not to complain about the damage that was done to their dog. Cats not loyal?? Guess again. ![]() |

I think they call them "toy" poodles. The cat ("Nug") was a little bigger than the poodle.
I don't know that much about poodles, so I could be wrong. I've only known one other poodle, and that was a standard poodle named "Vogen." Poor thing was hit by a car and left a little .... different. ![]() |

I think there is a size that is smaller than toy. They call them "teacup" poodles. Then again, it's possible that the toy and the teacup are one in the same. I'm not nuts about foo-foo dogs, but I really felt so sorry for that little poodle. It made me proud to know that Nug would go to battle for him. Eh, people who say cats aren't loyal are talking out of their butts. ![]() |

I actually like standard poodles (if they are NOT shaved in the typical poodle-like way *shudder*). I dont know the other poodle breeds (having seen them sometimes, but not on a regular base) well enough to judge them. Quote:

Both are - for lack of a better word - nice. But there is such a great span of "typical" behaviours in both - cats and dogs - depending on breed, training, character, age, etc - it would be hard to even define the typical behaviour of a dog (chosen as example because I know more about dogs then about cats). Take for example the behaviour of a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog and that of a German Shepherd Dog. Both are large dogs, the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is even a German Shepherd Dog-Hybrid (originally a mix between shepherd and wolf). But their typical behaviour - even their mimic - differs greatly. Whilst e.g. the Shepherd has a very distinct will to please the Wolfdog does not. (Again making broad generalizations). This makes it much harder to train a Wolfdog - if you stick to the book and dont adopt your training and behaviour to the dog. If you do - both are just fine. Now add e.g. a Pyrenaen shepherd or an Australian Shepherd (not that they are so similar) and you get a third "kind of dog". And all three breeds show different kinds of loyalty - and I would rely on all three. The same is true for cats. |

On the other hand, back when I had my cat, Newton, .... you could not ask for a more loyal friend. There was a period I was so sick ... three or four days, when I could barely drag myself out of bed. Newton just stayed there with me. Left me only long enough to grab a bit of water and hit the litter box. Otherwise, he just stayed with me and purred at me until I felt better. He also had a habit of meeting my neighbors at their front doors in the morning and walking them to their cars. That was how people found out I was sick ... they started to wonder why Newton wasn't there in the morning, and came over to check on him after about two days of not seeing him. Man, I miss him. Photo is of the doggies wading in the lake near the house. |

Man, those dogs look serious! Did they drop their car keys in the water and now have to feel them out?

They dont look serious, they look beautiful!
Has it been a hot day and they wanted to have the normal dog-drink? Walking slowly trough the water sipping all the time? Or perhaps they needed their car keys to get back into the acclimatized car? |
