I would like to bring back this discsson as I have a new question to ask on the issue of multiple ereaders:

What do you do with your multiple ereaders? I will give an example of what I am talking about, personally I have two ereaders: a basic and a 2012 paper white, the paper white takes care of instances where I need the book light, such as on a darken bus in the morning or in the dark waiting for the bus. The basic handles instances where the ligh is not really necessary, such as on the subway or at my desk in the office. Thus I have roles for each of the two ereaders to play.

What roles do your ereaders play?

They play the role of ereaders. I read on them. Sometimes I read on one, sometimes on another. There's no rhyme or reason, only whim.

...oh yeah...I also like to line them up and look at them sometimes. Again...whim.

I have multiple devices all of which can hold ebooks, but I only have one of each.

1. My Sony PRS-T1 is my only eink device, I traded in my Sony 600 for it.

2. My Samsung MP5 media player, is my traveling device which usually gets used as my music player but I can also read on it.

3. My Nexus 7 2012 tablet is my reading in bed reader.

4. My Samsung Note 2 phone is my everyday commute reader which saves my sanity when I'm stuck on the train or trolley.

5. My pc gets used as a reader as well.

Color me curious. Why do you ask?

To answer your question:
  • NOOK ND (replaced NOOK Tablet) - first choice for reading legible e-content, outside of art books, photography books, technical manuals, or textbooks, all of which I prefer to read in hard copy.
  • Smartphone - first choice for reading on-the-go when my NOOK's unavailable; the only solution when reading online when out-and-about in a location that has a mobile signal but no wireless Internet connection; handy for looking things up to supplement what I'm reading on my NOOK; invaluable for following an online recipe when cooking (as it fits on the narrow ledge near the stove and cabinets but a safe distance from spills and steam, and in my pocket when I'm rummaging in the pantry). Preferred for consuming streaming or recorded/saved audio or a/v content when on-the-go.
  • Laptop/desktop computer - first choice for reading art books, photography books, technical manuals, or textbooks; for on-device and/or online multi-tasking while reading; for "power shopping" at online bookstores (especially the NOOK Store, which oftentimes returns error messages when I try to buy something via my NOOK or cellphone from outside of the NOOK app); optimal for reading details about, comparing, and purchasing in rapid succession multiple items. Preferred for consuming streaming or recorded/saved audio or a/v content when stationary. Preferred "castle keep" for digital collections and the tools used to manage and secure these "master libraries" (e.g., Calibre, cloud services, Media Monkey, and portable backup hard drive).

My K2 reads Mobi and Topaz books which I've never bothered to convert (and having just physical buttons and no touch screen needed to select and navigate stuff means it works better in a baggie in the rain), my Sony reads ePubs which I no longer bother converting (and the occasional PDF, since it handles those somewhat better than the K2), and my recently-acquired hand-me-down BlackBerry PlayBook seems to be destined for accessing tablet-ish stuff which my e-ink readers can't really handle, such as comics and picture books with fancy formatting, via the aid of various store/reading apps.

I can test my ebooks on various platforms. In particular the fonts are important. But also the formatting of paragraphs and text.

Sony PRS-T1 and Kindle K3 w/Keyboard: both e-ink and they stay in my bedroom; I alternate reading books that I bought from Sony with freebies that I bought from Amazon.

NOOK HD+: bought because I wanted an Android tablet and this was being clearanced out by Office Max. However, so far I have only used it to read books bought from Kobo and B&N. I use it when I am reading in other areas of the house and if I suspect I will want it, I will take it out of the house with me. (Such as when the kids want to go to the library or when I'm taking them to a practice.)

iPad (original): reading during lunch or other times when I'm eating by myself, using the Marvin, NOOK & Kobo apps. I don't do any reading on my iPad 3. I used to use my Sony PRS-505 this way, but the battery life became too short for practical use and I got into the habit of using my iPad while I debated whether it was worth replacing.

Samsung Galaxy S4 (work phone): reading when I'm away from any of my other ebook readers using Moon+ Reader Pro, Kobo, Nook or Kindle for Samsung apps.

I have ebook readers installed on my personal phone, but I never use any of them since getting the S4.

I have two Kindles right now. I read on both. I tend to alternate them but when I start reading a book I put it on both of my ereaders and my Nexus 5 phone and they all sync so I can read on whichever is handy. I read very little on the phone and don't count it as an ereader any more than I do my laptop computer.

I collect ereaders because I love them. Nothing logical, just like to collect them.

I have only my two kindles. The one that I had before I won my PaperWhite (my old K3) and the PaperWhite. I did get my mom one but she never seems to read it nor remember to recharge the battery.

I do almost all of my reading on my JetBook Lite.

I bought a used, inexpensive Kobo for use on a vacation at the Jersey shore because the JBL display can be a little jittery under direct sunlight at noon. I've never noticed it in my backyard, but I did notice it on a trip to Florida a few years ago. Turns out, I didn't really need it -- the display was just fine.

I bought a used, inexpensive Nook STR because I wanted to "root" it, install Dropbox, and "play" with some non-B&N applications. Still haven't had the time to do that, yet.

So, I still use my JBL almost all the time.

(Try to find one for your Mom, crich70 -- keep a few rechargeable AAs available on stand-by, and you''re set!)
