The issue I had with the PM I received was that it did not state that s/he was unable to see what I saw but rather that I could not have seen what I was claiming to have seen. Evidently I am now a lackey of Kobo's Minitrue. No mention whether a paid lackey though...

<insert deity of your choice> knows that we've often enough seen issues with web pages not displaying the same information depending on location and how well edge servers such as Akamai are updating their cached information.

I can fully support this statement... I've worked for a webhosting company as tech support before, and we always had some calls with customers' websites not instantaneously updating when they revised their pages. It sometimes takes a maximum of 24 hours for all the changes to be implemented all around the world.

That's what I was thinking. They don't specify an exact moment just the day. Besides which 9 am say where you are and where I am might be hrs apart depending on our geographical locations.

Well it was definitely not available for pre-order in the UK early on September 1st, but the status changed by the afternoon when it was available for pre-order. Nothing at all wrong with that?

Not sure they would have gotten many pre-orders at the £180 price point though.....

Did you ask any questions first, like will it be shipped from Canada or the UK, once they get here?

Nope, but they ship UK devices from the UK going by past experience. It's free shipping after all, no way they wouldn't charge for that...

Thanks, I'm tempted but quite nervous of ordering direct in case of any problems. I've heard too many horror stories.

I will be buying from WH Smiths too - heard too many horror stories on this forum from people ordering direct from Kobo. Also it's nice to see and play with the device before purchasing.

Ordering from a local retailer will invariably make it easier to return when all the pin dot holes start to appear.

As a consumer, this is the heart of the problem precisely - Kobo can't get right their own product pre-order page/system, yet the retailers who sell Kobo products can. This is truly mind-boggling! How Kobo manage to stay in business sometimes defies logic, IMHO. It's a damn good thing for them that their hardware is outstanding because their software & customer service experiences leave a whole lot to be desired.
