Probably not. That rebadged netronix unit has a wacom screen. The Aura H2O does not (so far as I know).

I doubt it will be available for pre-order on September 1. Kobo is based in Toronto and September 1 is Labour Day, offices will be closed.

Turns out that's wrong. Actualitte is saying that the Aura H2O will go up for pre-order on 1 September, and that the device will ship on 1 October in the US, Canada, and Europe. Retail in Europe is 179 euros.

And even if it WAS rebadged hardware, it would probably be possible for Kobo to (re)compile their own firmware, with different drivers, for that device.

Releasing in Europe in October is perfect for me. By the time it hits WHSmith it will be close to Christmas, and I must admit I'd like some reviews first, especially comparing it to the existing Aura HD, which I don't have. Plus I'd like Calibre to work with it as well before I get one. Ohh and case availability.

I want no header, no footer, and availability of "Time to read" for sideloaded books if I'm even going to consider this as a successor to my KPW1. I think having page numbering supported by Count Pages is too much to ask though; I don't know if a Kobo reader/book can have pagenumbers embedded like an AZW3 can.

Since there is a very high probability that it will use the same firmware as the existing devices, Calibre compatibility will likely only depend on Davidfor getting the proper device "ID" and adding it to Calibre. That could well happen before the device ever gets delivered.

I just got the official announcement email.

I'm torn. I JUST bought my Aura HD last week...the waterproof aspect would be nice (being a clutz) but not sure I'm willing to pay 50$ more just for that...not sure anything else about the new in it is worth waiting...

On the official page:
*IP67 Certified. Waterproof for up to 30 minutes in 1M of water with port cover closed.
**For the best reading experience, dry the screen if wet.

The last bit did make me laugh....really? That needs to be stated?

It looks so nice. I hope they put up more views, a rotating 360 degree view would be great. The case looks really good, but of course, likely to be $50 or so, which is too much.

And only black, darn it.
