I thought I was going to get a mini last year, in anticipation of the retina model, but dithered when the price went up $70 and made the iPad Air look like a better deal with its slightly better screen (in terms of color gamut). I'm still dithering, and at this point I'll probably just wait for the next generation iPads, then try to sort out my requirements vis a vis the screen size.
Moving ahead with purchase decision would be made easier if: 1) the base model had 32GB at the same price points, and 2) they add cursor support in iOS. Probably zero chance of the latter (this seems to be part of Apple's way of 'differentiating' iOS from OSX, so you need one of each), but I think it would add versatility that I'd otherwise miss after using an Android tablet for several years. |

I have an ipad air, mini (non retina) and a galaxy note 3. I still prefer to read on my paperwhite 2. I just prefer the eink display.

I have a Galaxy Note 3 - comfortable enough to read on but small, and battery issues get in the way. I bought an ipad mini to read on and sold it quickly - not comfortable for my eyes at all (the Note 3 has a much blacker black). Wish I hadn't sold my Paperwhite to buy the Note 3. I will buy a new one (Icewine?) when it comes out.

I use Kobo Aura HD for reading anything that can be converter to an ePub format. I find reading on my iPad Air difficult with so many other apps wanting my attention.

I have an iPad Air and about to purchase the Nexus 8 when it is released. However I will always read books on my Kindle PW1.
To me, a tablet screen for reading just doesn't compare to an ereader like the Kindle for long periods of reading. After all that is the whole purpose for developing an ereader in the first place! For short PDFs and graphic novels, I use my tablet. But for larger layout dependant and image heavy books (e.g. textbooks and reference guides) I would just buy a paper copy. |

I'm not switching to an Ipad, but it is good to know that there is an excellent product available when my eink devices eventually die or I'm forced to move entirely to TTS. Cost is an issue for me, but I know that there is an excellent TTS app for the Ipad. Thanks for the tip.
I currently do not use a lighted device most of the time as I find it tiring on the eyes. Non-lighted Nook and Kindle devices seem to work best for me. Last edited by Tarana; 06-01-2014 at 08:35 PM. |

Don't have the iPad miny retina, but the iPhone 5 which I guess would have a similarly bright & shiny screen. Using the iPhone as GPS on my motorbike clearly shows me its limitations outside on a bright sunny day.
But to each his own! Still loving eInk. Best regards, Andy |

I just don't want to read on my / any tablet. My Kobo Glo died an untimely death a couple of weeks ago and I immediately replaced it with the latest Kindle Paperwhite. The thought of being without an e-ink reader was not a happy one. Thankfully, with Amazon Prime, My Kindle was with me the very next day. Minimal withdrawal symptoms were observed, but I'm okay now ![]() |

I have an iPad mini retina and a PW2, and for me it is no contest that the PW2 is better for reading. I do read from the iPad to use my Scribd subscription, and it's fine, but I find the PW2 is easier on my eyes and less likely to seduce me into playing games, checking email, surfing the web...

I have an iPad 2 and a pw2. I prefer reading novels on the pw2 because it's like reading text on paper, in fact it's better than paper.
For all other things, email, browsing the internet, it's the iPad 2. |
