Not me. Carrying the ereader around would mean I would always have something in my hand. I much prefer to carry a handbag, as I can sling it over my shoulder and have both hands free.

I find them as desirable as they would be on the inside of a book cover, and won't buy a cover that has them.

They aren't useless. If you stay at a hotel and go down to the pool or beach they are a great place to put the room key card, money for the pool boys who bring you the drinks or your credit card or room charge card. I don't take my purse or wallet to the pool/beach but I do take my ereader. On planes, of course, they are a good place to put that boarding pass for your connecting flight or anything else you might need that you don't want to dig through your bags for. I don't always use them but the fact they are there makes it easier when I need a place to put those cards or tickets. Mine are in a fold over snap shut section much like a wallet which also gives extra padding to protect the reader.

When I read paper books I used a $20 for a bookmark, it acting as sort of an emergency fund if I was out and about and needed cash and didn't have any. These days the pocket of my Kindle case holds the $20.

Word of advice (since someone brought up hotel keys) - Keep them away from the magnets in the iPad or on your cases. They'll wipe them.
It happened to me twice last year, on the same stay. ![]() And yeah, I don't enjoy carrying a purse around, and they make the folio wallets as big as them. So pockets are useful. |

The pocket is where I keep my bookmarks.
![]() Kidding aside, mine doesn't have a pocket, but I always cringe when I see kindle covers with built-in pockets, because all I can think about, is that the last thing I'd want is extra pressure on the fragile glass display due to a bulging pocket...even a slightly bulging pocket. |

I have a couple of covers with pockets but never use them. I like the idea of slipping in a list of books in series order - I never know which one is next so this would be great!

I used to keep a paperclip in the pocket of the cover for my Kobo Touch a few years ago, as in those days it used to lockup a lot.
But ever since about 18 months ago, the firmwares for the Kobo range seemed to have improved a lot and I've not had a lockup for a long time. Nowadays I don't use the pockets at all. |
