Any chance v4.54 can be downloaded from somewhere?

I have 64bit vista and libprs/calibre seemed to work till v4.54.

v4.56 crashes as soon as I press the convert E-books button.

I was trying to convert a pdf file, and the message I got was "calibre.exe has stopped working".

I thought this might be pdf related. So I saved the pdf file as an htm file, and tried the conversion again - same message.

Renamed the .htm file to .html (just to be sure) and tried the conversion again - same result same message.

Tried to convert some of my fictionwise and baen .prc / .lit format books. Same message. (I know they have the .lrf format for download, but this was a a test)

Tried it again with a txt file. No luck

I know for sure .htm and .html, .rtf, .prc and .lit, were converting with v4.54.

I know 64bit does not seem to be supported by calibre, but since it was working fine with its earlier versions, I thought perhaps I should see if it starts to work again after reinstalling the older version.

Any help appreciated.

weird there haven't been any changes to the conversion infrastructure between 54 and 56. Try running the conversions from the command line.
Code:
any2lrf filename

Tried that at the command prompt

message is "'txt2lrf' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Probably means it did not recognise the path. Since this is my current path -

C:\Perl64\site\bin;C:\Perl64\bin;c:\program files (x86)\imagemagick-6.4.0-q16;C:\PROGRA~2\GTK\bin;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Win dows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;c:\Program Files (x86)\Bioscrypt\VeriSoft\bin;C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\;c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\binn\

I added the calibre directory to the path like so

C:\Perl64\site\bin;C:\Perl64\bin;c:\program files (x86)\imagemagick-6.4.0-q16;C:\PROGRA~2\GTK\bin;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Win dows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;c:\Program Files (x86)\Bioscrypt\VeriSoft\bin;C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\;c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\binn\;c:\Program Files (x86)\calibre;

and the command line versions seem to run fine.

However the GUI conversion still gave me the same message.

Furthermore the options button, ie the one with the hammer also gave the same message.

"calibre.exe has stopped working".

Please help. I really would like to see if the older version is available anywhere. It may work.

Unfortunately, I don't keep old versions. Can you open a ticket about this issue, it seems like there is something in the latest version that doesn't agree with vista and I'd like to track it down.

ticket - done

Thanks for the quick response! Much appreciated!

BTW I got it to work eventually.

I had an older install of v4.54 on an XP MCE machine and copied it over the 4.56 install. Conversion works fine now.

Zip is a compression format that contains other files -- these files may be txt, pdf, html, rtf, or anything else. calibre can and does convert certain types of files that may be inside a zip file.

calibre get "Cover browsing"

Just released calibre v 0.4.58 with support for browsing books using their covers. There's a short video demonstrating the effect at http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/downloads/videos/

I know what zip is. And a Calibrie that I have on my WinXP machine do not open zipped fb2 and doc files (I havent check other zipped firmats - not using them).

Is it bug or special feature of my computer? I also have BookDesigner and it opens all zipped files, including those that calibrie doesn't. I am missing some module?

I just DL'd Calibre for the first time last night. I converted a couple of docs, but I tried a PDF this morning and got what looks like a quoting error inside pdf2lrf. Looks like somewhere it's trying to run "C:\Program Files\..." and the filename isn't getting quoted.

pdf2lrf.exe "my book name.pdf"

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "convert_from.py", line 84, in <module>
File "convert_from.py", line 80, in main
File "convert_from.py", line 60, in process_file
File "convert_from.py", line 39, in generate_html
calibre.ebooks.ConversionError: 'C:\Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

calibre doesn't support doc files and zipped up fb2 files. Most other formats zipped up should be fine. Indeed since calibre stores ebook files zipped up in its database, it doesn't make much sense to give it zipped up ebook files.

@jridley

I thought I fixed that bug in v0.4.58 what version are you using?

Indeed it does. Almost all books on Internet are zipped. So why one shall unzip each downloaded ebook before sending it to Calibrie?
