My signed (and inscribed to me) copy of Berke Breathed's first book - The Academia Waltz ("Do these come in extra small?")
And my signed E.E. Smith PH.D.'s Lensman Saga (Sorry I have a first of The Vortex Blasters, but it's not signed...) |

I have a few autographed books (signed to me) as well. They're in paperback but it does give them a bit of extra special meaning. They are the 5 books (so far) that Nancy Kopp has written. I'd guess they are best described as legal thrillers. I've got them in ebook format now too but I plan to keep the paper ones.

Said mother tern to baby tern, Would you like a brother. Said baby tern to mother tern, Yes, one good tern deserves another. And I think this one came from the same book: Hunter to wife: I spotted a leopard. Wife to hunter: Don't be silly, dear, they grow that way. There is also one about a chimney sweeper and his wives, but of dubious taste and politically correctness. ![]() |

Dune
Dune was the first science fiction book I read that drew me in completely. I read it several times over the years. I bought a copy for my eReader and was surprised that it seemed different than I remembered. Research found that it was edited by the current copyright owner (Frank Herbert passed away). I don't know why it was edited but in places it seems to foreshadow things I don't remember seeing in the book.
So I bought a $9 used copy of the 1965 edition, for reference. I'm keeping that one. |

My most cherished books were the Pern series by Anne McCaffrey and the Gramarye series by Christopher Stasheff. I even went so far as to buy hardcovers for the larger print when my eyes started giving me trouble. Alas, they are all going now since I can't read them, but I DO have them on ebook now, so I'm happy.
That said, ebooks do not replace cookbooks or craft books for a variety of reasons. |

A torn and very old copy of Heinlein's Time Enough for Love... Due to an allergy to celulose I developed in late years I still keep it in a glassed shelf. To read it again I would need mask, gloves and protective spectacles...
One ebook I go to frequently is J.L. Borges Complete Works. I have to digest (literally) one short story after the other. So it's always open and never completely finished. So it's the case with several short stories by P.K. Dick, Isaac Asimov and the like. I can read a short story in the time it takes to wait in a doctor's visit or a subway ride for instance... |

I have a hardcover deluxe edition of Les fables de Lafontaine (Fables by Jean de La Fontaine), in old original French with drawings by famous french artist Grandville. My father gave it to me when I was a child and I still treasure it.
I also have a compilation of some of Poe's short stories in French that came out recently, hardcover, glazed paper, illustrated by french artist Benjamin Lacombe. The book has come out in other languages too like English (Tales of the Macabre). The book and the illustrations are gorgeous. I bought a book too about all things cats (I LOVE cats), a beautiful hardcover book called Dictionnaire amoureux des chats by Frédéric Vitoux, which also has illustrations in black in white of cats inside. But it's definitively the content that is the winner, the author who loves cats writes with so much spirit and verve about them, it's a joy to read and reread. Another book I'm very fond of, is a beautiful hardcover book called La petite encyclopédie du merveilleux by Édouard Brasey. The book is filled with illustrations in colors and has glazed paper. The book is about an encyclopedia of supernatural creatures from all over the world. There is also the hardcover book Si les fées m'étaient contées... which is a compilation of 140 french fairy tales. I also collect mangas, I'm very fond of them and I'm proud of the ones I have, and the ones I plan to buy. I really love the art of mangas, compared to western comics and graphic novels. |

Book sales are great aren't they. I've gotten some good ones at Library book sales in the past. They get new books or decide to cull some of the older books from their stacks and put them in a book sale. Sometimes I've even been able to purchase books that I'd borrowed in the past and enjoyed a lot.
