I would bet that this is the main problem with people and eye strain, and the fact that some probably need glasses and refuse to acknowledge that fact. If something is low resolution, and you are trying to read in poorly lit conditions, and you need glasses, it stands to reason that you are going to have eye strain.

Our eyes are not designed to truly see in the dark, or very well in low lighting conditions, so trying to do something as eye intensive as reading is just foolish. And for those who are in denial about getting their eyes checked for glasses, you are only hurting yourself with your stubborn pride, it certainly isn't a machines fault.

But it's always easier to blame something/someone else rathar then ourselves.
Yep. I've been using computers/tablets/phones/e-readers for decades and have never had issues, nor have most of my colleagues as far as I know.

Back to the actual topic, the screen makes for a great reading experience, I had the tablet in front of my eyes all afternoon which is very unusual, usually my eyes get tired of looking at a tablet FAR sooner than that.

I wasn't book reading, more browsing and the like. One thing I do feel against the device as a reader, it is not particularly comfortable in the hand. Trying to wrap fingers around it gets uncomfortable after a while, yet there is not enough side bezel to work very well, you are going to touch the screen constantly. Moreover, the screen has a very SLICK feel, like it will slide right out of your hand. So holding by resting a thumb on the slim side bezel does not feel secure at all.

A case should fix the matter, but this is not the most ergonomic reader device out of the box. After my hand got tired, I kept it in a stand the rest of the afternoon. Oddly, I can hold my heavier and larger Nook more easily.

Anyway, I bought to use as a tablet and only occasionally to read books on. But with a case to make holding it easier, I think it could make a great reader too. I've got Mantano installed, will add some books shortly.

I've often thought there had to be a reason for Samsung's resolution-crippling strategy and that it might involve (i) an agreement with companies for which Samsung manufactures better tablet screens or (ii) an antiquated approach to model stratification. Some people might not buy iPads if Samsung made a less crippled version under their own name, some might forgo high-end smartphones if they could own similarly spec'd tablets, and some might once have settled for lower screen resolutions if the other specs were good enough.

Luckily, we're not living in those days any more and Samsung has to have noticed.
