I'm with TechniSol and PeterT on this one. I find it hard to believe that someone can come to a forum looking for help and then refuse to try a small, simple, quick experiment that might fix their problem. If they tried it at least they'd then know if the hidden SSID is indeed the problem or not and could decide where to go from there.

As for me, I see a LOT of postings here about Glo network fail with symptoms similar (and sometimes identical) to mine. If I were the ONLY person in the world with Glo network problems, I'd give it another go and say "I MUST be doing something wrong."

If the Glo were not the only 1 of 8 devices unwilling to maintain a connection to this network, I'd give it another go and say "I MUST be doing something wrong."

To reverse the old breakup cliche, "It's not me. It's you."

You remind me of someone I had to deal with today, who told me the equipment I spec'd was too expensive... they freely admit they know nothing about it, but could find "similar" equipment for 2/3 the cost.
Nice way to slyly take it personal. We're done.

I think the resistance you're encountering is due to the fact that most people post in forums to receive help to fix problems. That's what many don't understand, your resistance to trying to fix it.

Maybe a disclaimer in your original post something along the lines of 'not looking for help in resolving this, I'm just venting' sort of statement might have curtailed some of the negative responses in the thread.

What part of "I give up" (in the subject line) is hard to understand?

How can your marriage depend on the network being hidden? You pretend you don't have one? You could just give it some strange name and pretend it belongs to the neighbors.

But back to SSID - I'm not doing it for the security, but for the convenience of my SO, and his Nooks (largely) in the living room. A simple, single broadcast SSID was needed, based on endless weeks of confusion on his part, and that's what I got with the broadcasting Netgear extender.

Oj829,

Trust me, if I decide to take it personal there will be no doubt or subterfuge involved... I'm nearly as subtle as a cement mixer full of concrete careening down a mountain with no brakes or gearbox. I'm the guy who advises the Bond villains to "just kill him now!" Don't discuss your evil plan, construct a clever trap, encourage your mistress to seduce him, employ colorful yet ineffective henchpeople, just kill him... kill him NOW! (OK, I'm kidding, I actually root for the good guys -pity it's so difficult to figure out who they are these days.)

It's entirely up to you what you do. I just have a hard time calling a piece of equipment a POS if it was working, and now only refuses to work because you have discovered a unique circumstance by which it does not. It's sort of like having an amphibious car that can also be turned into a plane and lamenting that unfortunately the pressure vessel's rating won't allow you to explore the Marriannis (sp?) Trench... POS!
