My favorite pd books

Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham
Sister Carrie, The Financier, and The Titan by Theodore Dreiser
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
O Pioneers! by Willa Cather
A Pair of Blue Eyes and Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy
The Awakening by Kate Chopin
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair
The Red and the Black by Stendahl
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

I also really like A Portrait of the Artist of as a Young Man and Dubliners by James Joyce, but i probably wouldn't recommend them to most people.

I'm also a fan of Russian literature such as Crime and Punishment and Demons by Fyodor Dostoevsky and Fathers and Son by Ivan Turgenev, but i wouldn't recommend the public domain Constance Garnett translations.

A no-miss public domain book is the unabridged version of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. This is the one with the nude water pouring scene that's been cut from most editions.

See the thread on the twenty worst covers to see what I mean.
