I use only broad tags like Science Fiction, Mystery and Detective, etc.

For anthologies, I use "Anthology" for multiple authors and "Collection" to mean a single author.

book64, let Calibre download as much rubbish "genre" as it likes. Just delete them and replace with ones you prefer.

Yeah, some of the metadata downloads don't seem to recognize calibre's request for no (or two) tags. Highlighting a bunch of books at once and using the bulk metadata edit to remove all the tags works like a charm.

You can set Calibre to not include the tags when it downloads the metadata. Go to Preferences, Metadata Download, and uncheck "tags" in the window for Downloaded metadata fields. I find that's much easier than deleting 50 tags since I'll still have to enter the tag I want to use.
