Unless Amazon, Kobo or Sony releases a colour eReader, colour eInk technology isn't going anywhere.

The design and appearance just looks wrong to me. I don't like it.

Oddly, while the Kobo Aura tempts me with it's higher PPI, this tempts me not in the slightest. I don't really need color to read my long-form narrative text (novels).

Nonsense. Resolution is generally measured linearly, as "pixels per inch". The mask of the Triton eInk screen halves the number of pixels per inch.

let's just wait till there's a real review out.
if june remains the release date (only in Ukraine/Russia first?) there should be a lot more info out soon. there is another clip of it out on youtube, the screen looks somewhat better with reduced backlight compared with the first clip. not really sure what to make of it (overview starts at about 30 secs). still sceptical about the need for backlight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOCXcfES3qs for my needs, this device might just be the right thing, i hope so anway. a mobile device, color screen, easier on the eyes than lcd, able to fit pdf scripts for class, less expensive than the jetbook color. Does it have high resolution? Does it have great colors? I guess not, but it could still be just the right thing for some who have other priorities. I was merely wondering where you got the information that it has a backlight? It would be reasonable to assume that it's frontlit, as all other illuminated eInk devices are.

I didnt really give it 2nd thought so I just wrote backlight, unaware of the relevance.
Apparently it's frontlit like all others. Not really keeping up with ereader development on a regular basis, just waiting for a decent affordable eReader with color, significantly more than 6". this one could be it, fingers crossed. |
