Solved the problem. Reset my Kobo. Reinstalled the updated firmware. Installed the books. Everything works fine, even the bookmarks.

I think if I have some spare time I might try the logout method tonight. See if that database reset will help.

@Ottdmk: I'm sure it will. I have had a few issues with the Touch not remembering locations, or not showing the right cover.
A logout / login made a big difference. |

No such luck. Interestingly enough, the bookmarks on my sideloaded pdf survived the process, but I still can't get the notes to stick around.
Think next up is a factory reset. Just 'cause I have some time tonight. ETA: Nope, no such luck. Looks like I've found a genuine bug. I shall have to look into where to formally report it. On the bright side, the Touch went from 1.9.9 straight to 2.1.5. Also handled calibre dumping around forty books (mostly pdfs) in one go. Yay for stability! The problem is that if you edit the bookmark/annotation from the Annotations list and then do a "Show on page", the edits are forgotten. If you make the changes and press the x in the corner to close the annotations list, the changes are saved. I discovered this a while ago with 2.0.0 but had only noticed it when trying to delete annotations from the list. I just tried adding or changing the note and it is broken in the same way. Kobo do know about the problem. While were talking about changing annotations and highlights, you can do this from the book by pressing on the highlight. The annotation/dictionary bar shows at the bottom and you can change the note, add a not to highlight or delete it from there. This does save the changes correctly. And is faster than through the annotations list. This doesn't work for the dog-ear bookmark. Pressing it only toggles it on and off. Last edited by davidfor; 10-20-2012 at 01:08 AM. This is what I did: bookmarked page by dog-earing it, brought up menu. picked annotation, touched line menu on right hand side, selected add note, added note, saved, and then directly from annotation page hit home. Checked to see if note was retained and it was. Maybe I am misunderstanding something. I went back and tried the show on page route as you described above and again it worked. Notes were saved. Upgraded from 2.0.0 to 2.1.5 without a hitch. Page turns and general operation seem substantially faster. We did get the clock back in a more sensible way, but we've lost the progress bar at the bottom. Also, paging through the library brings up a prominent window stating "Page X of Y", which I find somewhat annoying.
The fact that each firmware update brings such drastic changes to the interface and feature set suggests that Kobo isn't working from a definitive roadmap, which is somewhat concerning. That said, I am generally pleased with the update. |

Ah, that's it then. It was a kepub. I should pay more attention when reading. I'll see if I can do this with epub later today.

Not to mention that there'd be plenty of room for a page count up there by the "XX - YY of ZZZ items". Of course, that would too be easy, too unobtrusive, and make too much sense...

I recently complained that I didn't enjoy that they removed the option to have either a cover picture or a happy face for the Powered off screen and Sleep screen different. I found it convenient to quickly see if the unit was off or asleep (without having to get up close and read if it was powered off or asleep).
But, I see now that they have added an option to show a full or partial cover picture. With a partial cover displayed in powered off, the background is black and in sleep it's white - good enough. ltr |

On that note, I love the reduced-size covers. No longer does the "percent read" bar obscure part of the cover. |
